Both Navwar and Rod Langton make 17th century Dutch Wars sailing ships in 1:1200 scale. Are they both of the same calibre or is one that much "better" than the other? Comments, Recommendations welcome. Sounds like a good era to game in. Thanks Bob |

I find that Langton's ships are much more detailed than Navwar's. I picked up a few Navwar Dutch War vessels at the shop, years ago, and wasn't too impressed. Langton's are jewels, like their Napoleonic ships. Allen |

The Navwar ships do not compare well to the Langton ships. I have a few Navwar that I use as a French squadron. The rest of mine are Langton. I will not buy more Navwar. |

I don't know much about the models of either, but judging from his books and articles, Langton would seem to know his stuff. |

I have both. The Langton ships are superior by far with optional brass photo-etched sails, and photo-etched shrouds and ratlines(all at a price). The Navwar ships are decent quality at a lower price. Both ranges are somewhat limited, so some mixing may be in order. There were hundreds of ships in the Dutch Wars, but the vast majority of the small to medium sized vessels in the fleets are represented by only a few models. The bottom line is, if you are out to build and rig exquisite 1/1200 scale British and Dutch Ship models, fully rigged (and they are beautiful ships) you should go with Langton. If you want to use them for gaming, you can't stand to see your beautiful ships handled and dropped and you are trying to save money, go with Navwar. Either way the Dutch Wars are awesome. Go Michel Adrianzoon DeRuyter! |

BTW, if you want to know the level of effort that can go into building the Langtons, go here: TMP link I use mine for gaming. I have fleets of about 30 per side, which is/was an on again but mostly off again effort that has taken about three years and is not quite done. |

I couldn't pass up a comment on the Anglo-Dutch naval wars!! I'd second all the comments on Langton's ships. He also has a good set of rules for the period, which work well for large fleet battles. |
