On this french blog you can see this interesting horror little history.

At the beginning he wrote:

"From the diary of Lieutenant Vladimirescu Carlstadt-Lican of the Regiment Croatina Tudor:

"May 4th 1758: The next four days we patroll these desolate regions in pursuit of the Prussians. Not a trace of the soldiers of Frederick. The only villages we passed through were completely abandoned, as if man and beast had suddenly taken flight.

May 7, 1758: Yesterday, late at afternoon we finally spotted the enemy. After a brief firefight, the Feldjäger fled. My men were exhausted, it was late, we decided to camp there. The proximity of the enemy making men anxious, I doubled the guard.
At night, a sentry post was attacked by a giant wolf.!!…

See the pictures and the horror history at the end of the page.

Now, I posted on the NPU wargaming forum a few preliminary ideas about a possible adaptation of the rich and rather unconventional Japanese Hellsing en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellsing to an 'alternate' mid-18th C. European setting:
