I don't know if anyone on the East Coast attending NOVAG or HMGS shows ever bumped into the cheerful Mr. McCourt, but I learned recently that he had passed on in September. He made amazing kids games up out of junk and wood bits. I greatly admired his efforts. V/R Walt Obit on Singularity, showing pictures from his 2006 Star Wars game: link |

I remember seeing Jim McCourt as a regular at the HMGS cons and clearly remember the Star Wars game posted on the link. You could see the happiness he gave to the kids playing that game. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing and only hope that his family's pain can ease with the passing of time. Rest In Peace, Jim. |

A sad passing, indeed. I didn't know him, but I remember seeing the Star Wars game at Historicon. He will be missed. |

Always sad to see another wargamer pass, but even more so to see a good police officer removed from the roll. May he rest in peace. |

I had corresponded with him through email for a number of months last year, and he was a true gentleman to the core. He was even kind enough to send me a large pack of Old Glory WW2 figures for free, saying he no longer needed them! My wife's pregnancy sadly interrupted that correspondence, and I had been looking forward to contacting him again after life settled down somewhat. It is really sad to hear of his passing
may he rest in peace. |

Walt, Thanks for posting this. I knew Jim when I was still living in Silver Spring, and always exchanged pleasantries with him at cons afterwards. Although I thought he looked a bit rugged on these occasions, I didn't realize that he had been stricken with leukemia. It was always uplifting to see him with his boys. He will be missed. Ed M |

Minimum contact via emails / rules / design-ideas exchange. Maximum feelings for great guy. As little contact as I had, I will miss him greatly.

Ah crap. Jim was one a of a few who made it out to the Antietam mini con I hosted in '08 and it was great to meet him. You were a great guy Jim, and I'm sorry you had to go so early – but you'd better save a spot for me at the Game Table in the Sky or the first beer is on you! Rest in Peace my friend |
