How much would you pay for admission to a convention? For all three days, and for one day? What is a reasonable fee? Brian |
Angel Barracks | 23 Oct 2010 1:56 a.m. PST |
Depends if there was a game on that I really really wanted to see, or someone I really wanted to meet. Assuming not the above and just a regular show: £5.00 GBP tops for a day. I can't imagine I would ever want to go for more than a day but if it was a 3 day affair, £10.00 GBP for all 3 days.
I never spend more than a few hours at a show unless I am trading there. |
Timmo uk | 23 Oct 2010 2:43 a.m. PST |
Salute is about £9.00 GBP for the day IIRC. I feel £10.00 GBP is about as far as I would go for entry given the car park adds another £15.00 GBP |

Should be a two price system between those coming to game and those wanting to look and buy For a non participant $5 USD a day would be OK but they could not sign up for any games or contests. No multiple day For gamers $10 USD a day $20 USD for three |
Angel Barracks | 23 Oct 2010 2:46 a.m. PST |
Thats the thing, to go to salute would cost me about £60.00 GBP including petrol, parking, entry, food etc. It is not just the entrance fee to consider. |

Conventions tend to be different in the States I think
to me a show is traders and a some eye candy with participation games as a sideline as where I get the feeling elsewhere people go to play the games – hence they need to be 2-3 days
over here I have done with most shows in a couple of hours etc, unless a particular game appeals to me to try it out. |
tancred | 23 Oct 2010 4:58 a.m. PST |
$10 USD a day, $25 USD for the weekend |

Mapleleaf has me covered. QUOTE"Should be a two price system between those coming to game and those wanting to look and buy For a non participant $5 USD USD a day would be OK but they could not sign up for any games or contests. No multiple day For gamers $10 USD USD a day $20 USD USD for three" |

I think that if you are coming to play for a day $15 USD isn't unreasonable for a big show. For a smaller show maybe $10. USD For a weekend $25 USD seems quite good. I agree with the non-gamer price and would say that $5 USD would be good for that, depending on the show, of course. Salute would seem to be a different matter. |

From this side of the pond, I'd pay $15-20 for a day pass, $50 USD for a three-day thing. |
Scott MacPhee | 23 Oct 2010 7:13 a.m. PST |
I've paid as much as $35 USD for a weekend, but I wasn't happy about it and won't do it again. For a large convention, maybe $10 USD a day, $25 USD for the weekend is reasonable. For something smaller, $5 USD a day is my max. |

All the Local cons that get my attendance run about $10 USD a day and $25 USD for three (I don't attend on Sunday because I prefer church in the morning and have to get up at 0430 hours for work Monday, A National Con would require more fer sure! Gracias, Glenn |
Cosmic Reset | 23 Oct 2010 7:32 a.m. PST |
For me, pretty much $10/day, $20/3-day. I go to a number of other hobby related events and shows, and most of those are $7 USD per day or less, so I don't think that game conventions should be much more. |

I'm with Tancred, $10/day or $25 USD for the weekend. And I'd pay more if we could get decent amounts of space for the games and forcibly eject anyone who hasn't bathed. If I'm not playing a game, I won't pay to get in. |
Warbeads | 23 Oct 2010 12:56 p.m. PST |
I believe a local group tried the "not-playing" for wandering visitors, watchers, family, and friends but it was dropped for "various" reasons. They still took up space around the tables IIRC. Gracias, Glenn |

Should be a two price system between those coming to game and those wanting to look and buy That is impossible to administer or police unless you have a separate dealer hall and security on the door to the game areas. GMs are going to let people play no matter what their tag says. We tried it at Hotlead. It was a headache. Shopping or watching is participating just the same as playing. Everyone needs to help cover the cost of the show or it won't be there next year. |
Norman D Landings | 23 Oct 2010 1:18 p.m. PST |
I've paid £35.00 GBP for 1 days convention admission. Wait
you mean Wargames convention, don't you? In that case, no more than a fiver
UNLESS the event has speakers, presentations, etc. |

I think GenCon is about $70 USD for a 4-day pass in a convention center. I don't consider it unreasonable, but it's also a very large convention with lots going on. For most "local" cons, I wouldn't even consider paying $70. USD |
leidang | 23 Oct 2010 4:56 p.m. PST |
Our con (Fields of honor in Des Moines,IA) gets about 120 people and we charge $25 USD for the weekend ($20 pre-reg). Friday $10 USD Saturday $15 USD Sunday $8 USD |
Ivan DBA | 24 Oct 2010 2:03 a.m. PST |
I'm paying $20 USD for Saturday at Millenium Con next month. That's really more than I would like to pay, but I want to support the local con, and its a rare opportunity to play in a HOTT tournament. I think their three-day passes are $30, but I can't make it Friday or Sunday. |
aka Mikefoster | 24 Oct 2010 10:02 a.m. PST |
Locally for one of the Big three cons (Kublacon, Dundracon, or Pacificon) $40.00 USD for the weekend is reasonable and $15 USD would be reasonable. I would like to see all of the cons have something like a visitors pass where somebody could buy a pass to visit the dealers rooms and the flea markets if that is all they want to do. |
Blue Devil 88 | 24 Oct 2010 1:49 p.m. PST |
The Williamsburg Muster charges $25 USD for the weekend and $15 USD for either Friday or Sunday and $20 USD for Saturday. The hotel room rates are $58 USD a night which is very reasonable for Williamsburg. Check it out. link Justin |

It's a good while since I actually paid for convention attendance (I usually get in free as an event arranger), but 500 SEK would start to feel like a lot. For a single day, perhaps 200 SEK. |
flicking wargamer | 26 Oct 2010 5:15 a.m. PST |
$40 USD for a weekend. Maybe $20 USD for a day. Depends on how big the show is. Gamers are on average the cheapest people you will ever find. They will drive 20 miles to find a deal on a hotel or food rather than pay $1 USD more at the venue. They see any expense as standing between them and that perfect mini/game/terrain piece. |
