Hi all,

I'm back again. I am currently putting together TF 39 during the summer of 1942, while it was cruising the North Atlantic with the British Home Fleet. At this time I am pretty sure the entire TF was painted in the Measure 12 (modified) scheme, the one with light gray/haze gray/navy blue mottling (example: picture )

I need some help with the camo patterns on a couple of the destroyers, the USS Wilson (DD-408) and the Madison (DD-425). Does anyone have pictures of either of these during 1942? The mighty Ship Camo Page has Wilson in MS 21, but I doubt this, as the rest of her division was wearing MS 12 (mod) and she was in the Atlantic and MS 21 is a Pacific scheme. It puts the Madison in MS 22, but I don't think that scheme was in use during the summer of 1942.

Can anyone help? Those 1/700 scale models always seem to have excellent painting guides, does anyone have one for either of these two ships? Or does anyone know of a book that shows either?

Thanks for any help anyone can render on this all too-obscure topic.

I can't find anything for Wilson or Madison, but here's a color shot of a Somers class in measure 12

And here is a page with a couple of B&W views of a Gleaves class in measure 12 (modified)

Hope it helps,
Mark

Try asking the question on the Ship Model Forum:

Thanks for the help, gentlemen. The Ship Model forum was an excellent source. Unfortunately, no one seems to have photographed these two ships during the period I'm interested in, so I'm out of luck.

So near and yet so far. I can do all the capital ships and 6 out of 8 destroyers. Not bad, really.

Again, thanks for your help.
