Just wondering what interesting iPad apps are out there for wargamers, either gaming apps, or information ones or anything generally related to the hobby.

Thanks in advance.

Must be a dice rolling app.

GoodReader – PDF reader with very good file organization functions and annotation features. Good for PDF rules.

Dicenomicon – very powerful dice roller. You want to roll 3D7 (seven) and reroll all the 7s? You can do that. It's a ipod/iphone app but you can always run that in 2X mode on the ipad.

I found Good Reader a nice app for my iPad for reading imported rules and magazines. Lots of d6 rollers, some free, and a few dX rollers. Search on "dice"

I have not yet tried Bento but I have lots of Filemaker data bases of figures, rosters for games.

Ex Illis is a miniatures game that has an iOS app for game play.

I haven't found any yet, but since the iPad doesn't come equipped with one, the first thing I downloaded was a calculator.

Some thoughts on dice rollers: TMP link

I think I'd rather have rules and stat references. Ex Illis goes a step too far for me.

Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but there's a game called EUROPEAN WAR:

Okay-- I'll throw this question back to the group--

What kinds of apps would you people LIKE to see for iPhone/iPad?

I've been wanting to make a chit puller for Dirtside II, but my programming experience is mostly in Visual BASIC, and I haven't had the time to sit down and learn Objective-C or Cocoa Touch or Snow Tiger or Buttered Monkey or whatever it's called this week. I think once I learned the syntax, I could do a reasonably competent job, because I've already worked out all the logic behind the chit puller; I just need to translate that into Obj-C code.

Anyone know of any good starter tutorials?

Twitchy08 Oct 2010 6:16 p.m. PST

Javelin98,

developer.apple.com is where you want to go for tutorials and documentation. Be aware though, the SDK Apple provides is only built for Mac. There's no programming for iPhones on a Windows machine allowed! :)

That's okay; my wife went over to the Dark (Turtleneck) Side a couple of years ago, so I can use her cute widdle Macbook.

I'd pay good money for an app that ran WWII armor.

With a few taps (attacker, target, range, rough angle, motion) I would like to see if a round hit and what the results were.

Just out of interest…

If anyone wants to have an app written, give me a shout, we've done a couple (not wargames related yet)

Hey Gary!

Hmmm… I have some ideas for some simple iPad games… Can you shoot me an email at grenadierguardscampaigns at yahoo dot com?

Lead Space20 Apr 2012 11:30 p.m. PST

There seems to be very little gaming related (miniature) programs for ipad. I dont really understand why since tablets are perfect for rules, gaming aids etc

Forlorn Hope Games21 Apr 2012 6:48 a.m. PST

I'm currently developing some new rules and intend to have tools to help run these as apps and web. One problem is funding I'm afraid. As I have to get people in to help with this sort of development (I can certainly get involved, but need others) and it takes me away from other work, it has to fund itself.

I've briefly approached a couple of companies to see if they are interested in app development to no avail. If you guys know any gaming companies that are in need on mobile app or web stuff get in touch. We specialize in database backed solutions (web, mobile apps etc) or just databases (and artwork automation but that's something else :-)
