If you only buy two books on the AWI (in terms of a British perspective that is), this and Mark Urban's "Fusiliers" will give you an excellent, myth-free description of the Army's view of the American war. |

Fusiliers is indeed very good -I also enjoyed Harvey's "A few Bloody Noses". |

'With Zeal' is excellent. For the British Army in a slightly early period (FIW/7YW) in British North America, see as well Brumwell, Redcoats. |

Matthew Spring & Stephen Brumwell were both post-graduate students in the history department at Leeds at the same time. Brumwell's book has a wider scope than Spring's and has some interesting things to say about the 'American Army' (i.e. the British Army in the FIW) and its influences on the later conflict. Both books are first rate and well worth the money and the time to read them. |

I've read it several times. The writing is excellent and the flow from one chapter to another really holds your interest. On my 'top 5 list' for books on the AWI. Regards, J. P. Kelly |

I agree with all of the above posts. Brumwell – best book out there regarding the 'American Army' during the FIW. Spring – ditto above for the AWI perspective And if you are feeling extra bold, may I suggest a trilogy title to complete. Fast forward 20 years and complete with Edward Cross "All For The King's Shilling" regarding the British soldier under Wellington. Excellent title and highly recommended. link Cheers, John |

Sorry, meant to say Edward Coss, not Cross. Butterfingers again. |

I would add Houlding's _Fit for Service_ as well. |

mashrewba, clibinarium Amazo are listing it, via Amazon traders, at £13.00 GBP but alas with £2.75 GBP p&p. Keep a watch see if they actually stock it themselves. link |

Thanks Thomas -order gone in. I've used both these traders before and they are very quick. Good luck to the guy trying to get £338.00 GBP for a copy -maybe it's signed by General Howe himself

"Good luck to the guy trying to get £338.00 GBP GBP for a copy -maybe it's signed by General Howe himself
" May be it is General Howe's own copy? lol |

I had the same experience – and not even the courtesy of an explanatory message with my Paypal refund! Nor a reply to my email asking for an explanation. I don't think I'll be buying through bangzo.com again. Have now ordered via Amazon trader with a good reputation. |

I would also recommend, "In a Soldier Like Way" if you are interested in the British during the F&I period as well. More focused, but full of great info. |

<<May be it is General Howe's own copy? lol>> You'll know if it's genuine, there'll be a big red lipstick kiss from Mrs Loring on the inside front cover. |

Update; I noticed a few days after the belated "out of stock" message was put up, it changed to "available" again. I thought what the hell; if it fails I'll just get refunded again, so I took a chance and "bought" it a second time, being fairly confident I'd get a "out of stock" email again. Much to my surprise a copy has just popped through my letterbox! It looks excellent on a quick skim through, though I'll have to wait a while to read it as I've just started Goldsworthy's "Fall of the West" :-( I thought I'd be the bringer of good news, but having checked the Bangzo site its out of stock again. Might be worth keeping a watchful eye on though. |

Received my copy of WZAB a few days ago and have been reading it every spare moment I get since. Worth every penny! I STILL haven't received any reply to my email query to bangzo – I don't feel that they take customer service very seriously, and a system that lets one place an order and takes payment, only to refund it a few days later, with no explanation, but the book is then 'out of stock' on the website, seems poor business practice, so they won't be getting my custom again. |

Check for availability second hand on Abebooks.com. Have both books and read both books. Definitely worth it. |
