ThorLongus | 12 Sep 2010 3:49 p.m. PST |

the trojan bunny | 12 Sep 2010 4:14 p.m. PST |
I painted mine with light blue skin. Sort of a 2000AD Rogue Trooper look. |
John Leahy | 12 Sep 2010 4:17 p.m. PST |
The ones in the movie were a tan to sandy color. That's how I'll be painting mine. Thanks, John |
28mmMan | 12 Sep 2010 4:21 p.m. PST |
An eye popping color is what I have planned for mine
the rogue trooper blue sounds good link but to be honest, I would think any base color would be great
a red might do well. |

They do have a Hellboy look
red skin with worn leather brown/black clothes link link |

Wow, ThorLongus, I really love what you've done there: link link TMP link I found a couple of other ones . . . TheCaptainGeneral's: link ChromeCat's: link Astranagant's: picture Archi's Minis: link Are there any other examples out there that I may have missed? Thanks, Dan |
28mmMan | 12 Sep 2010 5:30 p.m. PST |
Well after seeing the red skin
maybe not. It looks like Hellboy, completely. So
for me, not red and not green (space orc)
How about a nice dusty orange/rust? link link especially if splotchy like this link this is another splotchy one, with blue, yikes if it was possible it would look nice link |

I have been thinking about that since I posted it
first off it will be messy
base color in two like colors link for example the first card, bottom color, skip one, 3nd from bottom, then final touches with the 5th from the bottom
I would use the bottom and the 3rd in patches
hand, upper arm, etc
alternate between the two
follow up with the 5th color with a short bristle brush in a random pattern
kinda like doing camouflage. |
ThorLongus | 12 Sep 2010 8:09 p.m. PST |
sometimes wwhen you use an ink for the base color, and its not dry yet, a future wash will pull up some of it in certain random areas
usually an effect I try to avoid-just experiment..get messy |

Hmm. I don't know what's going on with posts today. Anyway . . . When it comes down to it, I guess that the actual skin color of the 5th Element Mangalores wasn't too uniform either: picture Dan |
ThorLongus | 13 Sep 2010 9:21 a.m. PST |
maybe you've reached your limit on posts, Dan. : ) when you get it figured out post pics of your progress, what about a nice red/brown like ruddy leather |
Cacique Caribe | 13 Sep 2010 9:24 a.m. PST |
LOL! "what about a nice red/brown like ruddy leather" I like that idea a lot, with some blotches. Dan |
John Leahy | 13 Sep 2010 10:17 a.m. PST |
That pic looks like lighting affected the other Mangalores Dan. In the action scenes on the resort ship they are all fairly uniform. That's how I'll likely do mine although I may do some shades of brown on the uniform too. Thanks, John |
Luckyjoe | 13 Sep 2010 10:46 a.m. PST |
This is a great thread, and very timely, too. I've got a couple packs of these that need painting. Thanks to everyone for the great ideas and thanks, Dan, for the post. |

"That pic looks like lighting affected the other Mangalores Dan. In the action scenes on the resort ship they are all fairly uniform. That's how I'll likely do mine although I may do some shades of brown on the uniform too" John, my skills are not up to par for making the fine distinction while painting 15mm guys
brown skin with brown uniform :( It may be just me, but maybe one or the other as brown and then a nice contrast
if I wanted a brown skin and brown uniform, maybe brown ink on white for the skin and brown paint on the uniform? |
Cacique Caribe | 13 Sep 2010 12:07 p.m. PST |
Good point, guys. After all, not all humans are the same shade and color, right? Dan |

I guess the best way to start is figure out where these guys come from, in your game. Desert planet Swamp planet or less stereotype planet, but they come from a particular zone
Maybe a Mars setting
three versions of ruddy red/brown with shared splotch color to bind them? |
Cacique Caribe | 13 Sep 2010 12:57 p.m. PST |
Desert planet works for me! Something like this . . . link Dan |

ThorLongus | 13 Sep 2010 1:07 p.m. PST |
@infojunky- that must be aa mirror image, cuz his powerfist and weapon arm are reversed
.or is it a conversion? @cc-Dan, look a regiment games site, the pics for the drantahk show a very good mottled skin effect |

I'm using mine as Orgons – Dalek allies/mercenaries. Mostly deep browns and blacks as per TV. May do the armour gloss black on some of the officers. |
unitrecon | 14 Sep 2010 2:41 a.m. PST |
Mostly blacks, greys and browns as I'm using them as Orgons, mercenaries/pirates used by Daleks, a type of ape-person given technology and a few worlds. Toying with painting some of the armour gloss black on officer's. |

I've posted pics of some mercs on this thread before: TMP link I painted four in a trial batch before working on a larger force. The skintone is Vallejo Cadmium Flesh washed with brown ink, then drybrushed with more cadmium flesh for highlights. Depending on the lighting, it has a kind of yellowish tint to it. It looks okay but I'm not entirely sure I like it, so I might try something different on the next batch. |
