Putting the finishing touches to my ACW collection for Gettysburg campaign – at Corps level with 4-5 regiments representing each division of each Corps for both sides. As always, the last consideration is the buildings. Does any one make the seminary or other prominent buildings in 25-28mm? Failing that, can anyone point me in the direction of plans – I'll make them myself if only I knew how big the seminary and so are compared to a human being. I've hunted all of the usual manufacturers sites and only found generic US buildings for the war or specific cabins and so on for Bull Run. Any ideas anyone? |

If you are using 4-5 regiments to represent each division of each Corps then you are bathtubbing the scenario and consequently your groundscale will be quite small. I would therefore suggest you use 15mm buildings rather than 28mm since 28mm will be way too big and take up too much room. |

Margard, If he's like me, he wants buildings in the same scale as the minis in his games. I understand why some folks would use smaller scale buildings in their games, but for me, personally, I think it looks rediculous. V/R |

I did a big Gettysburg demo in 15mm some years ago but wasn't able to find the Seminary in any scale, but Old Glory used to do the Cemetary Gatehouse in 15mm (so you could scale it up if it's still available), and I'm sure they did some of the other buildings in 28mm. Bob. |

Here is the Seminary and Cemetary Gatehouse in 15mm from Scenic Effects: link Also Allen has one for disposal: TMP link Is scaling up a possibility? |

I had Herb Gundt make a model of the Seminary for me back in 1994, and a beautiful model it was indeed. |

I'm going to be playing it on a 50 foot table, so I really want proper size for 25-28mm. Does anyone know of a set of pictures of the seminary and other buildings for scale – I suppose I'll have to make them? |

Years ago, Dave Paddock made wonderful 25mm models of the McPherson Barn, Rose House (including outbuildings), and the Bryan House. The resin buildings are now sold by JR Miniatures I believe. Chris |

50 foot table??? How wide? How long? May I respectfully suggest a series of tables with gaps for access like they do up in Chicago and Wisconsin for their huge games of SYW with BAR! |

You could always contact the Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg, they could probably give you the dimensions Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, 61 Seminary Ridge, Gettysburg PA 17325 1-800-MLUTHER (800-658-8437) info@ltsg.edu Or failing that, Adams County in Pennsylvania John |

Stoodley, 50ft table!! How are you going to cope with the width? I am preparing a Devils Den/Round Tops scenario in 20mm and I am stretched for width. How can you deal with the width??? |

Der Alte Fritz: Any chance of some photos for me to drool over? I am a big fan of Herb's work and always welcome an opportunity to view photos of it. Not sure if it helps but TM Terain have some photos of very nice commission models they've made of both the Seminary and Gatehouse: link Out of curiosity, can anyone tell me if the Seminary, back in 1863, had dormer windows on top? I have seen several models featuring these now. I was under the impression these were a later addition. |

How many model trees will you need to furnish a 50 foot Gettysburg table? How many yards of fencing? |
Houdini | 31 Aug 2010 6:20 p.m. PST |
Barry, the dormer windows did not exist in 1863. It is a common mistake. |
Houdini | 31 Aug 2010 6:28 p.m. PST |
Another mistake often made on the Seminary models is that in 1913 a Peace Portico was added as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Battle of Gettysburg. This was a half circle verandah and had a roof on it at that time. The roof has since deteriorated and been removed, but the half circle verandah still exists and is used today. |

The table is 50 foot long and around 6 foot deep, its in the shape of a horseshoe or a capital E without the middle bit, if you see what I mean. Its the centrepiece for our wargames holiday centre we've set up on Crete. The website will go live in a couple of weeks, we plan to open in May 2011. Gettysburg will be one of the several periods and battles on offer: Crete 1941 (20mm), Normandy 1944 (20mm), Indian Mutiny (28mm), French Indian Wars (28mm) and Zulu War (15mm). Let me tell you – trees well I bought 500 for the Crete game on the same size table for the test week we had in June and they went nowhere. Smaller trees admittedly. |

Sounds like a sight to see. Hope you will let us know here how to get to the site and such, cause Crete is a little out of the way for many of us , but I , for one, am really anxious to view your mega table online. Best of luck with your project! |

Ah, those month-long European vacation schedules, must be nice! In the U.S., we have another term for "Wargamer's Holiday" -- Unemployment! |

I created a 15mm scale, color, paper model of the Lutheran Seminary, based on copies of the actual plans. You could scale it up for 28mm. Send me an email and I will send you a copy. David G. dglennjr@yahoo.com |

David's work is highly recommended! I have his seminary model and it is very nice. |
Jon Sutherland | 13 Sep 2010 8:16 a.m. PST |
Many thanks to David for the help. Much appreciated. I can't believe that no one actually makes these iconic buildings in resin – I suppose they are one-shot pieces – not generic enough to give a wargamer value for usuage or something like that. |
