Here is a sneak preview of our "Horse Soldiers" scenario that Gettysburg Soldiers will be running at Advance the Colors con in a couple weeks.

Scenario will be based on the actual Grierson's Cavalry Raid into Mississippi in Spring of 1863.

One would think Grierson, an ex-music teacher, would have an excellent band.

At one point in the raid, Grierson and his staff paused at a civilian farmstead. He played the piano to entertain his officers.

That looks great Larry. Please take photos of your set up for those of us who can't make it as photos are always greatly appreciated.

Are soem of the civilians from the Blue Moon range?

Barry, yes the civilian figures are Blue Moon, from their Wild West selection. They are very compatible in size to AB.

That was near the end of the raid, just minutes before making contact with Banks' forces. He played mostly to keep himself from falling asleep.

Do you think they will ever remake that one, or is the original just too well done?

If Hollywood has shown anything it is that they are more than willing to mess up a movie which was near perfect with a remake. Evidently nobody is willing to fund an original idea. Must be why MGM is rolling in cash (They filed for bankruptcy protection last week for those that don't know).

Hi

check out the osprey on the raid. Nice concise retelling. The only real problem is minor in that the revolving carbine in the Osprey was written by a non shooter. The thing does chain fire, but the hold one uses is not as with a conventional rifle, and any user would know this.

The ability to rapidly do 6 rounds NOW was important in one of the actions where Greierson was caught out, but the way they describe this weapon would mitigate that.

But to the movie. I think they did a fun job with only a two hour telling.

A tactical quibble: Grierson was sending out a lot of misinformation by allowing people to "escape" after overhearing discussions. In the movie, the reverse happens where an overheard conversation results in them kidnapping a beautiful blond for the love interest! Silly, but expectable hollywood.

Despite the uniform faults and a few minor bits, I have always felt that "The Horse Soldiers" was the best movie ever made regarding cavalry in the civil war.
