First let me say I don't work for Warlord Games nor do I have a financial interest in same. Recently Warlord ran a great promotion for hard plastic Celt figures and apparently got a lukewarm reception. IMO these are really nice figures. I didn't buy any because I already have 350 metal 28mm Gauls. Why didn't you buy any of these? 1. Won't use plastic figures in my 28mm armies 2. All those stripes, plaids and tatoos put me off. The painting difficulty is just too much 3. The rules I use, treat the Celts poorly. Why would I want to buy the 'worst' army in the book. 4. Already have all the Celts I need. 5. Other 6. I don't game 28mm Ancients. |

Well for one thing # 5 which for me is that I already have multiple ancient armies that need painting and I have placed my miniature purchasing on a tight budget*. While the Warlord plastics finally makes collecting a Celtic army affordable I would also have to go with # 2 sorta. I can paint all those stripes and wode however, it is akin to working on my Hundred Years War 28 MM English and Scottish. The heraldry is a bear and is one of the reasons those armies are still not finished. Plus I am a stickler for getting it right or at least close to right. Regardless I would love to one day collect and paint a Celtic army but it will have to wait until other projects are done. Which means probably never sadly. * I am currently doing the unspeakable and looking to cull much of my collection in order to focus on specific genres and eras instead of giving in to the "oh shinny" impulse of wargame collecting. I know I am speaking heresy but that is where I currently am with the hobby. |

#2 and #5. I think the Ancient Germans are cooler, anyway! |

#5 which reminds me that many of the figures were bent forward running, and there were not enough shields in the original box? I could be wrong, or things have been reworked. Oggie |

"1. Won't use plastic figures in my 28mm armies" Put together one unit of these already from sprues that Tony and Howard had sent; didn't get it painted and to the guys in Maine in time for their battle of Sabis. Not very happy with the way the figures went together. It was a useful learning experience, but I don't wish to repeat it. "4. Already have all the Celts I need." All too true. Over 300 Gripping Beast; over 300 nekkid Newline Galatians; too many Old Glory to count (got that, Howard? Old Glory! Farsands of 'em!)
"5. Other" Have not bought many figures in 2010. Nope, I'm wrong. I have bought NO figures in 2010. One set of rules only. Some nice folks have sent sample figures this year, but the last ones purchased arrived on December 28, 2009. If I had felt it appropriate to spend anything, there would be higher-priority purchases, I'm afraid. Allen |

I have a few of these figures, and although very nice, my major problem is that with their overly dynamic poses it is very difficult to fit them on standard WRG sized bases. Since that is the basing I use for my Ancients, and I only play games using that basing, these are really a no go for me. Peter C Sword and Sandal Gaming Blog link |

4. First like you Q, I have over 300 Mini-Figs and other castings. Yet it still needs 12 more Cav, and a bunch of Chariots. As for 2, it's not that hard. I was doing blue washes at the end because I had run out of new ideas rather than was tired of doing tattoos. Also the plaids don't have to be as intricate as later Scots. |

I wont use plastics and I have done them in 15 already. Which brings up the old question of when can we switch from the old WRG basing standard to one that modern figures can fit on. A stand that works for 25 mm wont work for 30 mm. |

4.Have loads of Foundry Celts. About 1/2 painted. 5. Bought, assembled, painted some WF Celts. Somehow just look unnatural. Not happy how they turned out. Probably the way I assembled them. Don't like the finished poses, too stiff looking. Figure Warlord were more of the same. |

4. Couple hundred, mostly Foundry painted years ago. 5. Got bored with ancients gaming and plan to sell off most of my ancients figs. 7. Flipping broke, couldn't buy them if I wanted to. |

I think that there is some confusion here as there are two wargaming companies making hard plastic 28mm Celts. This question was about WARLORD. I have 60 of them in my plastic Celt army. They are beautiful sculpts but most have wide stances and arms stretched out. They are really only suitable for warband and then only if you put them on 25mm bases. I struggled to use 60 of them. I have about 64 WARGAMES FACTORY Celts. Individually these are not quite as nice as the Warlord ones. However, they are more useful because you can make ranks on 20mm bases for warband and you can make skirmishers with javelins and slings. For more variety, I added 30 Wargames Factory Germans. The cavalry and chariots in my army are also from Wargames Factory. The are only 5 metal figures in the army. Babastus (was Artizan, now from Gorgon) on foot and also in a WF chariot. A celtic witch (was Artizan, now from Gorgon) Boudicea (made from GW LOTR Eowyn) on foot and also in a WF chariot. Regards Mick |

"Which brings up the old question of when can we switch from the old WRG basing standard to one that modern figures can fit on. A stand that works for 25 mm wont work for 30mm." Well, the fact that it is getting more difficult to find modern figures that actually fit on standard WRG bases is one of the primary reasons that I have switched to 15mm for Ancients gaming. I'd rather see the manufacturers get back to making figures at the proper scale than go to larger bases since those proposed larger bases would result in tables larger than I prefer to use. No $, Not in an Ancient Celt buying mood, Don't like Warlord's Celt figures very much (too "stooped over", weird equipment mix). |
