Pictors Studio – I agree that seems to be the line "we will do cavalry if the infantry sells well enough".
However:
1) WSS cavalry reached the required 1000 sprues on the Liberty and Union League a long time ago, suggesting good sales.
2) For the WSS there was a high cavalry:infantry ratio i.e. you NEED lots of cavalry
3) Many people may be put off buying the infantry if there is nothing definate on the cavalry, you can't game WSS without cavalry i.e. no hard cavalry news => lower infantry sales => no cavalry get released
4) Other people may buy the infantry and then buy the cavalry from elsewhere. Then to have the style of cavalry to be consistent will carry on buying the cavalry from elsewhere (I am going to do a Napoleonic Austrian army with Victrix infantry when they are released later this year, but in the meantime I am painting the cavalry and artillery using Front Rank figures. To look consistent in style my plan is that ALL the cavalry I ever get for this army will be Front Rank). Hence not having firm news on the cavalry may well drive down future cavalry sales even if the infantry does well.
Sir William the Aged put together some fantastic proposals for WSS sprues on the WF forum that would cover all of the core forces in the absolute minimum number of sprues. It looked a very viable option for all concerned
WSS/GNW is a period I have always been interested in. I sold my huge 6mm collection 12 years ago as I needed the money urgently and a good, complete plastic line would get me back in a shot.
My painting plans are sketched out until Christmas, if by then the WF infantry look good AND we know cavalry are coming out 28mm WSS will become a major project. Otherwise I may well be one of those in point 3 above (I can't afford to do large scale WSS 28mm cavalry forces in metal unless I cut other projects and I am loathe to do that).
