Sierra Foxtrot (the thread title's a bit off, it's early yet!) One Five, a new fanzine for 15mm SF gamers, is looking for article submissions from you. Just about anything that could be of use to the 15mm Sci-Fi gamer will be accepted.

- Articles should be good, but pithy. Anything over 2-3K in length is going to probably be made a 2-parter.

- Pictures should be in .jpeg or .gif format.

- If you want to do art for us, realize we're doing a "hard-sf" look for the mag, we're getting away from the Gothic SF look of GW.

What kinds of articles are we looking for? AARs, Scenarios, reviews of figures, resin vehicles, terrain or just about anything of interest to the 15mm SF gamer. (We're especially looking for stuff that could be useful but a 15mm gamer might overlook). Interviews with figure manufacturers and rules writers (down in front Jon, CW and the gang at Rebel and Khurasan!).

All article submissions should be in .doc, .txt or .rtf format. Please send all submissions to jasonDOTweiserATgmailDOTcom

And thanks!

Fox?

Up to you of course but current NATO designation is Foxtrot.

M1Fanboy10 Aug 2010 6:46 a.m. PST

Whoops, yeah, that's Foxtrot…and I did the banner head as the latter too, it's early!

ThorLongus10 Aug 2010 7:27 a.m. PST

would love to see an interview with the writer of FAD 4.
big fan of that system

How "hard" is the look/feel of the sci-fi you want here? that could, technically speaking, disqualify a lot of things.

Aliens/2300ish…Halo's also fine, anything not clearly space opera or GW inspired.

Little Big Wars10 Aug 2010 9:34 a.m. PST

Well, guess my stuff over at Little Big Wars is out, considering I'm attempting to capture the feel of a number of Rifts armies with my collection (in addition to finding figures for the ship crews of most sci-fi shows).

That's more art than article related. I just don't want SF15 to turn into "yet another GW-wannabe" or "Star Wars, nothing but Star Wars"…I want to hit stuff that maybe hasn't gotten it's due.

M1Fanboy10 Aug 2010 11:17 a.m. PST

Ok, had a talk with Jage,

Here's the deal. The notes about hard-sci fi apply to the art. We're going for a different look. But, otherwise, you wanna send us rules for a thinly disguised replay of Hitchhiker's Guide, go right ahead.

Why restricted to 15mm?

Farstar10 Aug 2010 1:38 p.m. PST

With the rapidly growing selection in 15mm, "restricted" may not be the right word. I know I wouldn't have a problem if they also included the 10mm and 12mm stuff, but 6mm is really a different mindset again.

M1Fanboy10 Aug 2010 2:00 p.m. PST

We might expand coverage later, but for now, I think a singular focus is best.

Jage11110 Aug 2010 2:13 p.m. PST

We are looking for articles describing how something of a different scale can be used with 15mm, preferably with comparison pictures so people can see it for themselves. So products in 10/12mm can often be used for 15mm (the Reaper CAV vehicles come to mind) as well as figures for aliens as they usually don't have a set size.

I'd say if you have it and it is relatively pertinent to 15mm (as in discussing rules made for other scales such as 6mm or 28mm can be used with 15mm, other products, or anything else you can come up with) send it to us! We can always sort out what goes in the mag or not.

We might also run an irregular column discussing other scales

(I make fun of others)10 Aug 2010 2:27 p.m. PST

Why restricted to 15mm?

Because 15 is where it's happening these days, love.

Once was the time that you had just a handful of choices in that scale, most of them bad. These days one cannot swing a dead cat without knocking over shelves and shelves of nice new 15mm fantasy models.

Eli Arndt10 Aug 2010 7:14 p.m. PST

@M1 Fanboy

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, and forgive me if I am, but I really think you may have over focused the mag here. It seems like you are looking for less of a magazine about 15mm scifi and more a mag about your ideas of what are cool in 15mm scifi.

It seem to me that a heavy-handed approach to the artistic look inherrantly restricts content. I can't see why somebody would want to go through the trouble of writing up and article or AAR regarding a bunch of cool minis and terrain they have played with and then fudge the art or pics of their hard work and fun just to fit your asthetic ideal.

Why not approach this with a more open pallet. Sure you will have to weather a few articles that may not be your favorite thing, but if this is a fanzine it's not just about your taste in games.

Look at it this way, you might get some surprising submissions if you approach the initial fanzine with more open arms. You can certainly tighten things up if you start getting the "40K" and "Star Wars" stuff that you don't want. But until then, why discourage honest efforts?

Battle Works Studios10 Aug 2010 8:11 p.m. PST

Especially given the fact that many people regard 40K as agame that would be better played in 15mm than 28mm. Blue Moon in particular has given us figures that can act as excellent proxies for the role, although there isn't enough figure variety (eg heavy weapons troops, other specialist types) available yet to do everything well. Of course, Galactic War isn't even out yet, so there's reason to hope for many more sculpts from Blue Moon in the future.

Jage11110 Aug 2010 10:05 p.m. PST

I talked to Jason earlier today and a lot of my comments mirrored your points Eli. I agree with you, if there are many articles all on essentially the same subject with little variation we can always take the best one! So if you have any articles or artwork you want to see in the mag I'd just suggest sending them in (my email is jagethebrainATgmailDOTcom).

@Astranagant: Nice stuff on your blog, I particularly liked the Zap Brannigan and Kroker figures. Might want to rename them if they make an appearance in the 'zine though. Don't want C&D orders from GW and Futurama on our hands now do we!

Eli Arndt10 Aug 2010 10:13 p.m. PST

Well, I'll see what I can contribute. I really don't think he has to worry too much about a sudden influx of 15mm GW stuff. Face it GW guys like their game the way it is and very few would likely be bothered with our heritcal scale to begin with. For those who do, I say welcome.

Sorry folks, Jage is correct, if you've written something we can use, come on in..forget what I said earlier…

@M1Fanboy

I just wanted to say that I do appreciate your zeal and the work you are doing to spearhead this project.

Thanks,

Love it Lovejoy, will add it to the layout I've got at home.

What about actually using "SF15" as the main logo with the Sierra Foxtrot in small print or whatnot?

When would you like these Submissions? I am working on an army at the moment but it's still a couple of weeks from being finished if I were to show it with painted mini's and everything 8)
