I'm in the market for some pre-Napoleonic Royal Marines in 25/28mm. All I'm finding are the Old Glory figures in the soft mitre cap and however accurate, I find them ugly. Anyone aware of any other options? Anything from 1750-1785 would probably work for me. Thanks in advance. |

I thought by the AWI They were dressed as line troops. |

Redoubt do Marines in the small mitre. The only problem with them is that you buy them by the 6 in one pose. But I suppose it depends how you want them (for skirmish or as a larger unit). link |

Grey Ghost: I have six old Minifig "Marines" that are basically in regular army kit, but they have backpacks which seems inappropriate for ship defense, raid ashore, etc. Adam: Thanks, I'll look at them. I'm supposed to come up with 16 castings representing Marines stripped from the fleet. Did they wear the small mitre until the American Revolution? Thanks |

As far as I'm aware they'd ditched it by then, didn't realise you wanted them for AWI. If they were dressed as line troops I'd go with either Foundry British infantry. They don't have the campaign look of the later AWI Perry miniatures, don't have huge backpacks and if you got AWI032 – BRITISH CENTRE COMPANY and AWI035 – BRITISH CENTRE COMPANY FIRING you would have a nice unit of 16 with a decent range of poses for a small unit. |

As Spontoon mentions above, RAFM do British Marines for the SYW. They also do Grenadiers. The Marines mitres are a bit smaller. These are quite nice figures, in an advancing sort of pose. I have a bunch I use for my 25mm naval ships, and for the 21st regiment(Scots Fusiliers). |

You are correct. Marines had ditched the mitre by AWI and wore the same hat as line troops. Uniforms were red faced white with white small cloths and equipment. |

I don't think the Marines had buttonhole lace, so Foundry AWI Continentals would probably be good for Marines. Foundry British come with molded lace. |

Thanks everyone. I want them for the SYW, but a plate on the Royal Navy site indicates they wore the ugly uniform (my opinion) till 1748. No images to show what after that. So I wondered if they went straight to the regimentals like regular army. When did they have white facings? I'll look at the RAFM figures. I usually really like them. |

They were still wearing the bathrobe and dunce cap in 1757. picture at least when encouraging the others. |

Black Cat makes larger than 28mm marines. They have buttonhole lace. Foundry makes them in the WSS range. I LOVE that ugly uniforms, so much that I bought 2 bags of Old Glory, one in yellow facings, the other in Exorcist Green. |
