To those of you who are already 15mm gamers and collectors, simple question . . . If they were made, would you buy quality 15mm Dark Africa figures? You know, Victorian (and Post-Victorian) big game hunters, adventurers, explorers, natives, slavers and other character figures? Dan |
streetline | 06 Aug 2010 1:35 a.m. PST |
Hell, yes. Price and attention span dependant, of course. And the long promised GASLIGHT omnibus would help. But yes. |
timurilank | 06 Aug 2010 1:42 a.m. PST |
Yes. Slavers, porters, arab sailors and market figures with goods to start. |
shelldrake | 06 Aug 2010 2:10 a.m. PST |
yep – what streetline said |
grandtactical | 06 Aug 2010 2:25 a.m. PST |
Yes, and if it included British and natives for the Ashanti wars that would also be lovely. Oh and some gunboats, naval brigade
. |
tsofian | 06 Aug 2010 3:59 a.m. PST |
I would be all over this! |
MWright | 06 Aug 2010 4:11 a.m. PST |
NOOOOOOO! I've already done it in 28mm. |
Cosmic Reset | 06 Aug 2010 4:24 a.m. PST |
No, I really prefer 28mm for these types of games. |
alan in canberra | 06 Aug 2010 4:48 a.m. PST |
Yes I too would be interested in 15mm. Regards Alan |
CPT Jake | 06 Aug 2010 5:55 a.m. PST |
I would. Space considerations force me to use 15mm or under for new projects. This period.genre is one I would liek to do but it would have to be in 15mm. Jake |
Rdfraf | 06 Aug 2010 6:47 a.m. PST |
Oh yes! I'm surprised Peter Pig hasn't done this yet. It seems to fit in their style |
Sundance | 06 Aug 2010 7:08 a.m. PST |
Yes – I'd be interested in 15mm Dark Africa, cavemen and dinosaur ranges. Probably some others I haven't thought of yet. |
Rebel Minis | 06 Aug 2010 7:08 a.m. PST |
We have a good size line coming out this year with the larger than life system |
Alcibiades | 06 Aug 2010 7:33 a.m. PST |
I'd love to see Splintered Light or Khurasan tackle/produce such a range. Burton and Speke seeking the source of the Nile
.woohooo! And while they're at it, perhaps a comprehensive range for the 2nd Afghan War. |

Yes, I'd also like to see 15mm specific and generic african tribal miniatures to use for colonial gaming. |

Larger Than Life – link TMP link Yep, Mike and I already talked about this and I've seen some pretty nice looking greens. |

Another 'yes' for Darkest Africa, and if you could extend that to include a decent 15mm range for Indian Mutiny/Sikh wars, I, for one, would be very grateful! |
lutonjames | 06 Aug 2010 2:45 p.m. PST |
Historical figures for 16C would be well cool. I don't see why they wouldn't be good for pulp as well. Two birds one stone. I know Khurasan would do nice figures. Though I've got to do a fair bit of painting before I ever can see them in the metal. |

My Steampunk/Victorian Science Fiction RPG Stars of Empire will be out in October from Black Pigeon Press and will hopefully be followed by a miniatures game, so 15mm figs to round out things would be great. How about females in military uniforms? Terry |
Cacique Caribe | 07 Aug 2010 1:57 a.m. PST |
Some manufacturers are testing the 15mm Victorian/Pulp waters, while others are still thinking about it, still unsure of how many would support such lines. There are so many VSF unplayed (in 15mm) gaming scenarios that do not involve colonial armies on Mars. Think of Victorian explorers finding jungle ruins, desert tombs, lost prehistoric lands, survivors of lost civilizations, etc. Add to that all the later Pulp adventure tales, and you have a massive 15mm figures void that few have seriously tried to fill until now. Dan |
Cacique Caribe | 08 Aug 2010 1:07 p.m. PST |
To all manufacturers of 15mm (or considering 15mm); Please take note of the interest expressed here and on so many other recent and related threads. Thanks, Dan |
tsofian | 08 Aug 2010 5:59 p.m. PST |
Not only that but some other good news. It looks like my VSF varient of a VERY popular Colonial rules set is back on track. I will be self publishing, but will be supporting some fot eh best rules on the market. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available! Terry |

Not only yes, but "Heck Yes." |
Early morning writer | 30 Aug 2010 5:58 p.m. PST |
More than just yes. More than just heck yes. More than holy ********* **** yes. This would get my wallet out. I'm basically at the point of having all the miniatures I can likely use for the rest of my life – not to mention get them painted. But I would not hesitate to jump in and get a bunch of these types. As a matter of fact, I've been suggesting for quite a few years to anyone who will listen that we need a range of the great explorers of Africa in 15 mm: Speke, Peters, Livingstone, etc. And lots of critters to populate the plains – still looking for baboons, flamingoes, and vultures. I'll be checking back to find out the who, what, and where on this front. 15 mm – The One True Scale (or someone keeps saying out there in the void). Certainly my scale of choice. |

I already collect 15mm VSF, and would like to see something suitable for "Venus" safaris. A Darkest Africa range would work nicely. |

YES probably, irrespective of price |
Lion in the Stars | 11 Nov 2010 5:29 p.m. PST |
Yes, Yes, Yes, as long as price/fig is $1 USD or less (and they'd better be very good minis at that pricepoint!) |
Atlatl2 | 15 Nov 2010 8:58 a.m. PST |
Yes, I'm very interested. Please start with hunters and bearers first. We could substitute Zulus already produced for natives if need be. |

BTW, cutting off weapons and flag staffs of Mahdist and Egyptian figures great way to get proxies for "Market Vendors" and misc. characters. Look at "Artillery" and "Command" packs for the most suitable. |
Gonefromhere | 09 Dec 2010 1:50 p.m. PST |
I am waaaaay late for this party, but YES! And for the manufacturers out there trying to gauge volumes, i tend to base my 15s two-to-a-25mm-base, so twice the figures! That way the units look FAR better, and personality figs have some space for diorama-ing. |
Lion in the Stars | 09 Dec 2010 4:51 p.m. PST |
I'd base porters/bearers in groups, but beaters singly, myself, but (assuming we're talking ~$0.50ish per mini), I'd still be in for 30 or more minis. |
Smokey Roan | 09 Dec 2010 6:49 p.m. PST |
Yes! Rebel Mike has got a couple great looking Egyptian diggers coming out! African porters are a must! And Ruga Ruga, Asande, Hausa, etc. we NEED more DA natives! I think I speak for all of us when I say I'm tired of using Zulus for every native unit, or converted Ancients! Explorers/archaeologists/professor types. Force Publique too! No askaris in 15mm whatsoever that I know of. (Besides Essex Egyptian Gendarmes, and they look like Egyptian Gendarmes and are a poor proxy for Force Publique and other "real" askaris.) Oh, and general purpose civilians (native unarmed tribesman, market stall sellers, that sort of thing.) |
Early morning writer | 09 Dec 2010 10:32 p.m. PST |
Since this thread has been revitalized, let me second all of SmokeyRoans suggestions (though he needs to do more digging in Irregular Miniatures on line 15 mm catalog – they have Masai and other natives and two different Akari, one in shorts in the world war one listing besides the colonial one, not sure how many variants of each). On that general purpose civilian side of things, don't forget the women and children, native and European (though wild west has some but not in tropical attire). If someone is giving serious thought to doing this (we hope-a,hope-a, hope-a!!!) maybe start with a comprehensive range for German East Africa during World War One and work back to the great explorers. So, let's make a list: The Great Explorers (or their close impersonators) Their sidekicks and porters and bearers The armed forces (those not available elsewhere) Native civilians, both more advanced and more primitive societies to include women and children Appropriate critters for the continent (those not available elsewhere, at least) And nice detail items – stacks of ivory, maybe a dead elephant, crates, etc. Pygmies, pygmies, pygmies! For German's in East Africa, the big guns from the ship on land carriages. And let's have some early Indiana Jones/The Mummy type stuff – not so much the monster (though others will dive into that, no doubt, but the acrhaeology side of things. Not to forget a biplane! (Irregular have one, don't recall?) It is a mistake for manufacturers to not fill this gap for we who are 15 mm gamers. I expect others will fill in my list a bit. So who is stepping into this void? |
Gonefromhere | 10 Dec 2010 9:48 a.m. PST |
Oh boy, was that ever a "bump-and-a-half"! And
what they said. I can't see that anyone has mentioned the two Brigade Games 15mmpacks. These are more pulp, but are good. Unfortunately I can't find photos on their site. but here's the link :-) |

"Some manufacturers are testing the 15mm Victorian/Pulp waters, while others are still thinking about it, still unsure of how many would support such lines."--CC I have narrowed my zones of interest to scifi 15mm and colonials 15mm in an attempt to be realistic about expenditure and playing time. A Darkest Africa range in 15mm would be most welcome. I have kept watching the pulp ranges of Rebel Miniatures and Khurasan the only reason I have not purchased is a wait and see attitude due to sporadic releases. Pulp is very skirmish oriented (affordable) and I would add it as a third zone of interest. |

Early morning writer | 24 Dec 2010 11:51 p.m. PST |
So, a week away from 2011 and no manufacturer has posted any advertisements here on this subject. Maybe we need to boycott all manufacturers until they give us what we want!!!!! Well, maybe not. But maybe that helps them get the idea. Wait, maybe we should start a board dedicated to getting this done
(sorry, couldn't resist) |
