I have just released a new scenario book with 11 fictional Civil War battles. Useful for pick-up games or just to have a good time without having to find a scenario for or adapt a historical battle.

If you liked River of Death: Regimental Wargame Scenarios for the Battle of Chickamauga hopefully you will like this one as well.

Musketry Like Thunder: The Greatest Civil War Battles Never Fought.

Excellent! Looking forward to seeing one of these adapted for the fall issue of Charge!

Are these battles that could have happened, but didn't like Spring Hill, Tennessee, in November 1864, Pipe Creek in July 1863, or totally fictitious battles?
Not that it matters, ultimately; guess I'm just curious.

No, they are completely fictional. However, many are based on actual battles. For example, there is a scenario defending a bridgehead over a deep river much like Jericho Mill or Barlow's division at the Po River. Another scenario extends a line of earthworks toward a small crossroads town, much like Cold Harbor or Ezra Church.

Sweet! Now I know what to ask for for my next birthday

Based upon the last scenario book, I'm probably going to have to spring for this one too. Nice to see someone breaking out of the strict historical mold… you gotta do that with the ACW to a certain extent.

I just downloaded my copy, and I must say that there is a ton of information included int he eleven scenarios. Much work must have been done to make this worthwhile scenario tool. I can't even begin to imagine how much time this might save me.

I also have downloaded the scenario book, and I give it a huge TWO THUMBS UP! The scenarios look like a blast, and Brad has graciously adapted one of them for re-publication as a scenario specifically for Johnny Reb 3. His adaptation will appear in the November issue of Charge.

Thanks Brad for a job very well done!

Highly recommended for any regimental ACW gamer. The scenarios can be readily adapted for They Couldn't Hit an Elephant, Civil War Commander, Guns at Gettysburg, Regimental Fire & Fury, and many other similar rules sets.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Also, even though they are fictional scenarios, I still gave the unit strengths for each regiment and brigade. That way, you can adapt the larger scenarios to brigade level games like Fire & Fury. Technically, you could also do that for the larger games in the River of Death scenario book, but I didn't want to compete with the Fire & Fury Western Battles supplement. So, I went ahead and specifically mentioned it in Musketry Like Thunder to give it wider appeal.

I remember when the Chickamauga scenario book came out, and you mentioned the possibility of another scenario book along these lines – I'm glad you followed through!

I can highly recommend this scenario collection. It's organized along the same lines as the Chickamauga book, with a very clear and detailed presentation for each scenario (especially OB and map details), and from first glance a wide range of game sizes and types. An interesting extra bit that I noticed is a "similar battles" list for most of the scenarios, listing which historical battles are similar in nature.

With the pdf purchase it's only $1 USD per scenario, so an excellent buy.

Keep them coming, and I'll keep buying. ;)

Cheers,

Christopher

Christopher, the next scenario book will be Pickett's Mill, since that's the next section I'm working on for Civil War Virtual Tours. I've got a lot of material collected, and have had good sit-down chats with the ranger there, Jim Wooten (a great guy!). I even have the maps finished. Hopefully everything will come together by the end of the year.

I'll have new releases in early August though. Not scenarios, but its certainly for use with miniatures. :)
