Hi All I have a vague memory of a Courier of something else had a Retreat from Moscow skirmish game that the forces were generated by cards. Anyone remember this and if possible had the rules? |

Yes, it was when Walter Simon(I believe) ran a series of skirmish articles talking about his card based movement and firing system. I have it in my stack of Couriers, but I can't remember the issue. I believe it was in the back of one of the Sudan theme year issues. |

I seem to remember that Jim Birdseye was the author, but that's all I can tell you. |

Yes, Jim Birdseye. A very innovative game. Players were French/Allied stragglers in the center of the board. They stayed there while the scenery moved past them. Not all that much, a house or clump of trees. Players went through a deck of cards, each card signaled an event. E.g. draw a nine of diamonds and 6 cossacks appear on the left, draw 6 of spades and a clump of trees appears ahead, maybe an ambush. I have used this concept for a game set in independence Congo. Train in center of table and things appear and move past it, or engage it. Could do for WW2 ala VanRyan's Express or nazi platoon back from Moscow. |

I've got it. Any questions? I'd be glad to answer you but otherwise, I don't know how to get them to you. The card system is extensive. |

There is being sculpted and readying for casting a series of 40mm figures for this game. I've seen some of the greens and they look really good. I'm not sure who will do the distribution, but it might be Old Glory, or perhaps Sash and Saber. |

Sash and Saber had some on display at Historicon. |

The Courier #60 Cover says "A Napoleonic Skirmish Wargame'. Inside reads "The Happy Little Wargame" by Jim Birdseye. I can't PM you. Where do I send it? |

I played a 40mm game at Cold Wars 2012 based on the old Courier article about the retreat from Moscow. The figures were very nice and the game mechanics ran smoothly. |

Mike Tyson runs this at our con and it is maybe the singularly most entertaining game to play. Then, Mike's a great story teller/GM, which is a large part of why the game is so fun. |
