Well? Please bear in mind that I have no financial interest in TMP. I am busy sticking my nose in where it does not belong. Bear that in mind. I am simply stating that it annoys me when a shop posts a notice that he just got more stuff in. Is TMP now that shop's messenger service? Hey, Bill can do what he wants. It's no skin off my nose, it's off his. But, I'm just sayin'

It doesn't bother me, its easy enough to ignore the posting if it doesn't interest me, and if they are announcing a restock on something I am looking for, so much the better. As OFM already mentioned .. Bill can do what he wants either way. Dave |

I'm not sure – the trouble is that sometimes (especially with hard to find items) such posts are genuinely helpful, while other times ("we have some Warhammer figures!") they're just noise and thinly veiled free advertising. Additionally the degree of irritation magnifies with frequency – if a retailer is habitually doing it, week in week out, it becomes more of an issue. |

I'm with Dom on this one. GW restocks are not news, nor are Reaper in the US. Flames of War restocks used to be news, but I'm honestly not sure what that situation is like now. I'm willing to cut some slack for most other companies. I'm also not going to worry about long overdue restocks. One local example is a store that just finished flushing ALL GW because the company in question just stopped shipping the store any Space Marines. No new product, no restocks. After six months, they'd had enough. If that store decided to post here that they were getting back in to GW, I wouldn't bat an eye at the post. |

Well
At latest check, 3 out of the latest 10 Flames of War threads on the Flames of War Board are nothing but "New stuff in my store!" titles. They are by Supporting Members, NOT Sponsoring Members. (Here comes the "But Billy gets away with dipping the puppy's feet in ink and letting him walk on the white rug, so why can't I?" whine
) I asked what the *OFFICIAL* TMP policy was about the stuff I would be taking to Historicon for the flea market was. Could I post it on the Convention Board? Or should I use the Marketplace Board? I was told, by a Senior Administration Official, to use the Marketplace Board. So I am. Isn't this the exact same thing? "Hey! I got a Flames of War restock order in! Some of it is special orders!" If the Senior Administration Official can yank and nuke movie threads from the World War Two Boards for inappropriate posting

I too find it annoying but try to offer the benefit of a doubt, assuming the items in question were hard to get and the shop in question is a vendor beloved by customers for that range who have been dying to place an order. If it happened any more frequently than it does now, I would be inclined to feel less charitable. As a counter example, I am on the "opt-in" email list for a local game shop, and bi-weekly, sometimes weekly, I get an email called "[name of store] news for [date]". It contains a list of merchandise recently received plus a schedule of events. And I can read it or not. This is ideal because 1) if I don't want these announcements I can "opt-out", unsubscribing; and 2) if I don't want to "opt-out" but don't want to read it, I just don't open the email. On the other hand here on TMP they appear as news items with graphics. I can scroll down withought clicking, sure, but it seems more intrusive, as I can't not go to TMP, can I? |

I am simply stating that it annoys me when a shop posts a notice that he just got more stuff in. Is TMP now that shop's messenger service? I don't think they should be posting that as "hobby news" – it isn't. Hobby News is overflowing with stuff that really shouldn't be there, drowning out real hobby news. I've always thought there should be a separate section for shop notices so that things like "Timmy's Miniatures Now Stocks Cartman Models!" and "Timmy's Miniatures Will Be at Hysterical Wars Convention" are filtered out of hobby news. This stuff is useful and worthwhile information, though, but store stock information or if a store is attending a convention should not be in a section that tells us about new manufacturers, new products by manufacturers and so on. Just my opinion. -- Tim |
FingerandToeGlenn | 06 Jul 2010 1:35 p.m. PST |
Of course. Not everybody wants to fill their mailbox with spam. . . and I'd leave it in hobby news. If'n I ain' interested, I kin always scroll by. |
aecurtis | 06 Jul 2010 1:57 p.m. PST |
No, I agree with Tim; it's not news. Imagine yourself walking down the street. If you want to discuss things with your mates, you pop into the pub. If you want some news, you stop at the newsstand. Now imagine a corner down some side street where those with
sales to make are free to peddle their wares. They don't bring it into the pub. They don't block access to the papers and magazines on the newsstand. They are tightly regulated by the authorities, and excessive
sales are cracked down on from time to time. Give them their street corner. Give them a lamppost. Let them argue over their turf. But take it out of sight of the public, and by all means, spare the children. Allen |

I am with jdpintex on this one. To me, that is not NEWS worthy. (the only way it should be NEWS if they made the product themselves {small garage company
} and they have made a new product). Marketplace? Sure. News? No. Discussions? No. Maybe make a Retailers board so they can do that there
Oh wait
There IS a retailers board
Hummm
Maybe they should use that? I also find when someone does a review, it does not belong in the NEWS section. It should go to the "Reviews" boards
Pet peeve of mine, I guess.

Hi, I think it IS news if someone is suddenly stocking a smaller brand, (not GW or similar which loads of people stock). In a different country from where it is produced and generally stocked or is a new distributor. This makes it cheaper on shipping (normally) for residents of that country to get the product delivered to them, and makes it easier in the case of a distributor for shops to stock and is therefore of interest to a much wider range of people. Once it is know that someone stocks a range however most people would expect them to have stock so a restock is not news! (Unless for example they have only ever carried X range from A miniature company and have now decided to stock Y range as well!) We as manufacturers could help with this in that when we release a new product we could state that X distributors in Y countries also carry it, or refer to our own website with a link for details. I am happy to start doing this when relevant!! For the record John I would have had no problem with your stuff being on the conventions board as well, it was going to a convention and you are a supporting member! Jo:) |

This is how I, and my FLGS, define "restock". If a retailer wishes to announce a killer sale, newly carried line, or some other event, and happens to mention that restocks of certain *lines* are also in, that's fine. I really don't want an itemized list. That belongs on the retailer's own website. Now, if there is a lovely green "TMP" icon next to the poster's name, I can forgive a lot of business-based annoyance. |

It's the cutting and pasting of the invoice or packing list that annoys me. Particularly when he does not bother to separate oth the special orders that will not see the shelf. |
