I have seen some 15mm Kelly's Heros figs and the tank. I have also seen a 15mm Sgt. Rock fig. Now, are there any 15mm Rat Patrol figs? or jeeps? While I am on a roll how about the gang from Combat? |

I haven't even seen the other 15mm character stuff you are talking about! I've seen it all in 28mm, but not the smaller (and preferable) size. |

IT shouldn't be hard to do the Rat patrol. All you need is a british figure in beret, an ACW head wearing a Kepi, and an Australian wearing a bush hat. |

It can be coverted. One in beret, one in Bush hat, one in helmet and one in Kepi. Kepi you may have to convert from ACW. I don't know of any in 15mm sorry. |

Back in the 1960s I had a Rat Patrol set in 1/87, with character figures to go into the jeeps. I believe that those figures would probably fit in pretty well with current 15mm (although they would probably be much thinner than the 15mm). I have no idea what happened to those figures. You might be able to find them on eBay, but I've never looked for them. I do remember that we blew them up with enthusiastic regularity, they were automatically a priority target for the Germans whenever they appeared! I guess it was our little homage to Hans Gudegast, the long-suffering German commander in that TV series (and later, as Eric Braeden, a long-running soap opera star: link ) |

Not that I am aware of, and I miss my plastic set from the 1960's. It was really cool, and the sand dunes were superbly done. Sadly, lost over time, no doubt from an overzealous parent throwing them out during cleaning. I find it strange that so many other plastic sets have been re-released, but not this one. |

Whenever I watched The Rat Patrol, I was always rooting for Captain Dietrich to blow the cr*p out of the Rat Patrol. I got really tired of them weaving in and out of column of German armored vehicles and never receiving one scratch. Meanwhile, the whole German column would get blown up, so it seemed. |

Well, you have to admit, they had very effective machineguns, in order to be able to knock out tanks with those. |

Well, you have to admit, they had very effective machineguns, in order to be able to knock out tanks with those IIRC, most of the German tanks were M3 half-tracks, which probably were vulnerable to a .50 cal. But still, we all rooted for the Germans just because the whole show was so ridiculous. |

Why did one of them wear a kepi anyway? |
Top Gun Ace | 02 Jul 2010 1:43 p.m. PST |
Very true, but I remember seeing them firing at the tanks anyway, with their MG's. Can't recall for sure if they caused any to brew up from that, but it was great, dramatic action to a youngster, regardless of whether it was accurate, or not. |

"Why did one of them wear a kepi anyway?" Because he was form the South, of course, and in TVland NOTHING says the South more than a kepi (and a Rebel yell). |

Because he was form the South, of course, and in TVland NOTHING says the South more than a kepi (and a Rebel yell). It wasn't a Confederate kepi. picture
More "like" a Foreign Legion style. picture |

Thank you for putting this on the "Pulp" board where any discussion of the "Rat Patrol" belongs |

Many years ago, while I was enjoying Uncle Sam's hospitality on a surgical ward in Japan, I had the opportunity to watch Rat Patrol in Japanese. There were a number of Japanese-speaking Hawaiian National Guardsmen on the ward, so we had no shortage of translators, but we'd all seen the series before and, in any event, most of the plots were so obvious you didn't really need to listen to the dialogue. One bit of dialogue I will never forget occured in a scene where the Rat Patrol appeared as seen through a pair of binoculars, zooming across the desert in a cloud of dust. The camera switched to the chiseled features of Major Dietrich as he lowered his binoculars and muttered "Ah, so desu! Ratu Patlolu!" LT |

This is the first time I've found out the kepi was red. We had a Zenith black and white. JW |

Nice snag, KnabeTMP! I changed my search parameters a bit and found this: picture The Rat Patrol kepi lacks the black band, but had the "fruit salad" on it. I then found this: picture |

"Thank you for putting this on the "Pulp" board where any discussion of the "Rat Patrol" belongs". You mean its not historical? I was just thinking about recommending this show to Murphy for his school course on WWII. I thought it would be great to show how a courageous band of men in jeeps almost single-handedly defeated the Desert Fox and his army in North Africa. Perhaps the Documentary on Kelly's Heroes, and their independent armored drive deep into the German lines, would be better, instead. ;-) |
