Needing some kind guidance as I have recently re-read 'Red Storm Rising' which reminded me so much of my time in BAOR during the Cold War. What 15mm Miniatures are out there to represent the cold war through to now and whats peoples opinions of these miniatures?

Old Glory and QRF that I know off the top of my head. Old Glory is cheaper, so the quality is sometimes lame. QRF can be great or okay, I have a little of both but I am trying to get rid of them to move to 20mm as I have a local source for figures/vehicles. Hope that was a little helpful.

Also Quality Castings/Battle Honours and Peter Pig's AK47 line.

Quality Castings tend to be a little smaller than the other manufacturers, but they have some nice vehicles. The modern infantry are notably smaller than other manufacturers.

Peter Pig's infantry figs are great, vehicles are generally pretty good. Range is somewhat limited to items from African/Middle East conflicts.

QRF has a huge range, quality varies, but generally I would say pretty good, many are extremely nice. I have a number of their vehicles that might have served with the BOAR during the cold war and am very happy with those models.

Old Glory varies as well, more limited than QRF, but some are quite nice , and price can be very good as well.

Mostly, I try to chase down pics of any item I'm interested in buying, as quality of models can vary with any of the manufacturers. I think infantry from QRF, Old Glory, and Peter Pig work fine together on the same table, put limit mixing them together within units. Some match up fine, others might be a touch tall/short or just different in style/heft.

I have been wondering if we will ever see any more armor from Old Glory? They have come out with more infantry and some light stuff but I have not seen a new Tank APC or IFV for a mighty long time.

Unfortunately I can't access the link from work, but have a look at fireandfury.com – click on 'Battlefront: WW2' then BF:WW2 Resources. There is a page there for Modern (i.e. post-WW2) wars, which includes orders of battle for the NATO and Warsaw Pact forces. At the end of each orbat there is a list of models needed for that particular nation, together with info on who makes them.

If it's specifically BAOR you want; Skytrex do a very limited range, including Challenger 1, FV-432, Warrior and Saxon. Quality is extremely good, though perhaps a little on the large side.

QRF do a much larger range, including virtually all the vehicle models you'd need. The infantry range is limited at the moment, but Geoff is in the process of redesigning all their infantry ranges, so I'd hang on for a while – I am! The West Germans they released a short time ago are very nice indeed and I can't wait to see what the redesigned British are going to look like.

For the Soviets, both Skytrex and QRF produce a lot of very nice vehicle and gun models. Peter Pig and Quality Castings also do odd bits and pieces. Again, QRF do a limited infantry range. Peter Pig also do some compatible figures in their 'AK47' range.

Bob,

Lots of good suggestions above, I would also direct you to the 15mm Modern group which has a full manufacturers directory and a lot of photos:

Hi all. I am looking for 15 mm Russian T-90s for a friend. I tried very to find some and the only manufacture I could find is Khurasan miniatures. Unfortunately it seems he very back logged and out stock at moment. Is there any other manufacturers of T-90 tanks.

GeoffQRF01 Oct 2014 4:23 a.m. PST

Only Khurusan doing the T-90 at the moment. We have 5 variants of T-72 and 2 variants of T-80
