For air games Check your Six! does a great job.

Hello.
Skirmish: Beer and Pretzels Skirmish (BAPS)

Tactical (Co/Bn level) modified Tractics

Operational (Regt/Div level) Command Decision

Higher level: Get out a set of maps and then fight the battles with the above.

For air games, I use my house 3D set, Five Down and Glory.

Hi

Bought Rate Of Fire (& its AFV supplement) at Warfare last weekend and these look decent and very playable.

Also obtained a called Metal Storm with some interesting ideas/systems

Never can have enough rulebooks :-)

Cheers

COMBAT: WWII

Command Decision. Makes the player use Arty, Inf, and Arm in concert, especially on the attack.

clavain Inactive Member10 Dec 2010 10:40 a.m. PST

Command Decision for battalion-level and up. (I use some things from v3 with v4/ToB, such as movement rates/rules which have changed simply but dramatically in the latter, and for those who like the detail of weapons systems v3 is better. Plus it comes with an excellent desert Battleaxe campaign. That said I like the Fog of War cards and some other new additions to v4 as well.)

IABSM for company level

Disposable Heroes for 1:1 Skirmish but don't have a lot of experience here so will be trying other sets eventually.

I enjoy Memoir 44-its fantastic for a lazy Sunday when youve only got your lass or nephew to hand. I played against the lad -no brain of Britain- when he was 10 and he picked it up really well. He began to see the need to develop a strategy and also about the importance of outflanking the enemy. He also got more interested in the history of the period-plus removing the figures got him thinking in other ways too. Finally he enjoyed beating his uncle…

Other than that I do like Rules of Engagement and have a reinforced Brit platoon, some German fallshys and a HG platoon from a certain well known seaside location…

(also have alzo zero which I think aint bad but doesn't seem to have much of a following)

For company to division-level play in 10mm up to 28mm, I love "Fire and Maneuver" That game mechanic can also be applied to any ear from Ancients to WWII.

Having just got into the air side of things, I have to add a vote for CY6 – I love it.

Flames of War
Check your 6

They are the only ones that I play.

I'd like to change my response from back in may…

Still play BKCII for company+ sized battles but now I am playing and really enjoying ROE for platoon sized encounters. Played a little FOW but never really got into it.

DaveyJJ31 Dec 2010 12:01 p.m. PST

CrossFire or Poor Bloody Infantry II, both in 10mm. NUTS! 2nd edition for skirmish. (I do like TW&T as well ,must admit.)

Hex and chit tactical otherwise.

NUTS! WW2 for skirmish level and Panzer Korps for operational level games. Still looking for a good Company level game system.

Warwick Castle Inactive Member09 Jan 2011 4:01 a.m. PST

Try Metal Storm WW2 and Modern they Company level and like Mr kippling said… 'exceedingly good'

SBminisguy – Troops Weapon & Tactics if you want 1 model = 1 man. Card activated, each card activates a section/squad (9-12 men), which act together within groups/fire teams.

I Ain't been Shot Mum, for larger games – groups still represent a section, but less detail: its just 8 men.

Command Decision is the best in my opinion.

I don't have experience with many rules, but own dozens. Of the ones I have played, I liked Take Cover! the best (an alternative to Rapid Fire for 20mm battalion level game from Britannia Miniatures in the 90s) and I'll be posting a review of it in the next month or so.

Out of all the other rules I have played or read, I think the Fire and Fury Battlefront ww2 looks pretty good.

Empgamer Inactive Member04 Feb 2011 3:51 a.m. PST

I like BF WWII most but no players to speak of near me. R Mark Davies plays but he's about an hour away.

Mostly play:

FOW Company
BKC II: Battalion (it's still too abstract for me though)

Weasel Inactive Member26 Feb 2011 10:01 p.m. PST

Nuts and TW&T for sure. Just "feels" the best, and they both put paid to the absurd notion that "realism" must also mean complexity.

Crossfire is one we've played a lot too

Tractics.

Yes, Tractics. :-)

Either that, or "Not-So-Little Wars" 1:18 scale skirmish rules.

Flames of War and ASL.

Covering both ends of the bell curve.
