Currently, the magazine of the Society of Twentieth Century Wargamers is known as The Journal. If you were asked to come up with new name for the magazine, what would you name it? |

More importantly – maybe the society needs to be renamed as currently it only covers 1901 – 2000. Mayve society of 20th and 21st century wargamers ? SOTATCW ? |

"Super Elite 20mm Rapid Fire Gamers Fan Club Magazine"? Do you have a vendetta against everyone? |

Nah, he just wants to see how everyone else reacts so he can make sure he doesn't *over*react

"Do you have a vendetta against everyone?" No, his humor is just finely honed. |

We had the society name change question some years ago and personally I would change the name if we had a reasonable new one. "Contemporary" is wrong if it covers anything from around 1900 onwards. However, once the Society is renamed then the journal can stay "The Journal of

Vendetta? I thought it was descriptive! If I had a vendetta against anyone, they'd never know it; I wouldn't advertise it! Allen |

Allen, that would be a rubbish vendetta. Surely to make the vendetta worthwhile you should make sure the victim knows, but nobody else believes it. Try that, see how you get on. 8^D |

It is the Journal of the Society of Twentieth Century Wargamers, so SOTCW Journal does not seem an unreasonable title. OTOH SOA call theirs 'The Slingshot', but I really can't think of anything snappy along those lines. 'The Tiger Tank'? 'The Empty Battlefield'?? 'Five Rounds Rapid'??? Makes us sound like a bunch of gun nuts and war junkies. ""Super Elite 20mm Rapid Fire Gamers Fan Club Magazine"?" The Journal can only publish what people write for it. None of my articles are anything to do with RF. |

I dont think Allen has ever read it anyway judging by his comment. But then it doesnt have any content for people who like men in sandals and a loincloth. |

"Richard`s magazine" I do all the ing work i deserve all the credit ;-) Allen Curtis your begining to bore me – So some vocal people on our forum don`t like FoW, – just get over it! I have again and again offered to publish anything and everything including FoW, I am at this very moment contributing to a discussion on their forum. Some people on here take any criticism of their favourite system as a form of personal attack – its just a ing wargame – get a life
. I don`t play Rapid Fire!, Arc of fire, IABSM or an modern comercial system so have no axe to grind over any of them – I treat them all with a pinch of salt. |

In truth it really does need renaming. One of the reasons SOTCW fails to prosper is that it's scope is too broad. Cut out all the non-WW2 stuff and I might even think of resubscribing. Also, hats off to Richard Baber for his recent exposé of FOW gamers on various forums. |
Cornelius | 26 May 2010 1:17 p.m. PST |
Keep the mix Richard. You're doing a great job, which is whi have resubbed |
Richard Baber | 26 May 2010 1:32 p.m. PST |
Wg Cdr Luddite If I was to remove the non-WWII stuff from the Journal there would be vast holes in each and every issue which I simply could not fill with material submission levels as they are at present. Also, to be honest the content would probably no-longer be of much interest to me at that point either
C20th military history (and wargaming) is far more than those 6yrs – 1939-45 and to be honest far more interesting too once you step outside your comfort zone. Until about seven yrs ago, I was a 100% WWII gamer – now I rarely venture past 1938, unless its to jump ahead to Indo-China, French Algeria, Chad, Zaire or somewhere equally exotic. The SOTCW fails to prosper IMHO because people want "eye-candy", they need an instant fix which a quarterly magazine in B/W just can`t satisfy. They can get their pretty pics on the internet, scenarios and history all for free with no commitment. I think the mix of articles, scenarios, periods and scales is about right in each issue, I don`t think its the content as such, people just want more
The only thing I will say is that The Journal and the society won`t die because I didn`t put the effort in! |

Keep it as it is
Only someone who is truly pedantic would pick up on the 10 years it has been running in the 21st Century
but then again as most of the readers were born before 2000 then it still is truly A Society of 20th Cent Wargamers!!! |
