I'm not one to normally care but I even think his offense was pretty mild.

It's one of the silliest excuses for a DHing in a long time, and there have been some that really take the silly cake!

Space Monkey25 May 2010 11:19 a.m. PST

Ah… I took note of that post and figured there'd be some complaining.
As one of the 'deadbeats' I'll say I took no offense and vote for immediate parole… mostly because the place just ain't as lively when he isn't around.

Mlatch22125 May 2010 11:30 a.m. PST

I'm one of those "deadbeats" and take no offense to that comment at all. Found it kind of funny, actually.

Of course, if we "deadbeats" constitute a group, would be an attack to say we can't use the PM system?

Oh, but think how much he'll have to say when he comes out.

Acres and acres of pixels will be consumed.

His wroth will be terrible and he will go amongst the multitude and hurl mighty invective and other commentary unto the seventh level of the Lounge.

I could, and have, sprung for a Subscription, I choose not to for various historical reasons that are probably not sensible any more

zippyfusenet25 May 2010 11:54 a.m. PST

Oh pooh. John needs the stir time for street cred. People were starting to accuse him of being teacher's pet. He'll come out doing his Cool Hand Luke impression, good for another year of pushing the limits.

Ed Mohrmann Supporting Member of TMP25 May 2010 11:54 a.m. PST

We knew a man the OFM he talked a lot
on TMP (to the 'Mr Bojangles' tune…)

But now he spends his time behind the
Dawghouse bars, and who knows why ?

Jovian125 May 2010 12:07 p.m. PST

Actually he was dawghoused for improper spelling violations by the Grammar Police. It is a serious breach of forum rules to insult someone and include a typo in the insult.

It also means that someone complained about it.
That is the part I cannot fathom.
If someone complains, Bill has the duty to look into it.
And that's the way it is. Good or bad.

I'm aware of the many posting faces of John; however that would be avoiding the DH which is also punishable by much longer stays. I don't think the OFM will break that rule.

aecurtis Fezian25 May 2010 12:32 p.m. PST

"Bill has the duty to look into it."

And has been known to respond, "Not bad enough." To some pretty overt violations of the rules, in fact.

I suppose a legitimate Haddockism such as "Vagabonds!", "Hi-jackers!", or "Kelptomanics!" could have been chosen instead to identify those who do not financially support TMP. If that was what was meant. I'm not convinced.

What would be cool would be an anonymous jury for these cases.

Someone complains.

It starts a process whereby the offender is tagged with an icon indicating a trial.

You click on the icon and vote, guilty or not guilty.

Now, because a majority would probably vote not guilty – usually, though not always, only a scattered few are offended, the "trial" would require, say, 5 votes of guilty within a certain time frame and that would throw the offender in the doghouse. Otherwise, he's free.

All voting anonymous with the option to record your name.

Certain obvious infractions would be auto-doghoused as currently, of course.

I dunno, I'm a wargamer, so I made it complicated, but it seems to me it would be fun (Doesn't that sound like every rules writer?)

So even though a a majority of TMPers could vote not guilty, five anomymous votes could condemn?

There's a term for that!

How is "Some of the deabeats can't use PMs" a group attack? What group? Assuming "deabeats" is supposed to be "deadbeats," I still can't figure out whom he is referring to— except perhaps people who don't like someone and engage in public ad hominem attacks on said individual. Is that a "group?" Do they have an organization or some sort of lobby? Maybe there's a website.

Clearly my knowledge of various socially distinctive groups is lacking.

Ah, I get it. A "deadbeat" is a non-supporting member. I misunderstood the context.

SpuriousMilius25 May 2010 3:19 p.m. PST

Where'd you get that picture of the OFM dressed as a nun? The Dawghouse screws better drop their donuts & grab their billies; I just saw a movie that had an Irish rebel in a habit escape the Black & Tans' gaol!

Space Monkey25 May 2010 3:37 p.m. PST

I dare the invertebrate who pushed the button on him to step forward and own his deed…
C'mon, an accused man deserves to meet his accuser!

I'm betting it's some bottom feeder who just lurks and never posts.

Could have been worse. Could have been one of GriefBringer's pictures.

This does sound rather planned now that it was mentioned by zippyfuesnet. A short stay in the DH to reestablish his cover id and no one will suspect John's really a Bot the Editor wrote to improve the number of hits.

aecurtis Fezian25 May 2010 11:08 p.m. PST

"Aw come on; Allen started it."

Indeed.

Then again, I could merely have been speaking what a silent majority was thinking, and John was spurred to oratory by the strong-arm tactics used to silence me.

Perhpas more will follow his lead and speak out.

But I doubt it.

(Sigh.)

Men of John's caliber are rare. He is a true hero for our time.
