I am pleased and annoyed, I would love a desk like that.

quidveritas15 May 2010 8:13 a.m. PST

Normally I hate shopping with my wife -- sales in particular.

But . . . that desk is better than the best thing!

Way to go!

mweaver15 May 2010 8:38 a.m. PST

That's a really handsome desk. Not a bad price, either!

Stevus15 May 2010 8:39 a.m. PST

nice one :)

Neotacha15 May 2010 8:41 a.m. PST

What angelbarracks said. Although to be honest, I don't think we could fit it anywhere in the house anymore…

I just hate to shop.

But did you find a nice birthday present for your wife?

Gallowglass15 May 2010 9:10 a.m. PST

Outstanding find.

Jammy bastard ;-)

olicana15 May 2010 9:19 a.m. PST

Hi Neotacha,

No, the jewelry had gone for wholesale. I did pick up a couple of designer pens – £150.00 GBP worth for £60.00 GBP cash. That's both dads sorted for Christmas!

Every time you sit at that desk, you'll glance down at it, and this happy thought will pop in your head: "This beauty cost me just ten pounds!" And anything you do at it will therefore be so much the better— even if you're doing taxes.

Well, maybe not that…

thumbs up

napthyme15 May 2010 9:36 a.m. PST

only a tenner? that looks cheap as chips to me… :)

wyeayeman15 May 2010 10:07 a.m. PST

is it still on? and where!

ashill15 May 2010 10:24 a.m. PST

If it doesn't work out for painting you can ebay it and get way more than you paid. I'd give you £20.00 GBP for it – I know, I know ROFLOL!

ming3115 May 2010 11:03 a.m. PST

too nice for a paint desk …

Pretty impressive haul!

That is gorgeous. Suddenly the Ikea surface I paint at doesn't seem so nice…

Looks like the desks really are keener on the other side of the pond.

galvinm15 May 2010 1:49 p.m. PST

No way, not for 10?

you lucky son of a gun.

Regrebnelle15 May 2010 1:55 p.m. PST

That is a Score with a big capital "S". Almost too nice for painting. I think I would get distracted just sitting back and admiring that.

Nice one! As a Yorkshireman that tenner must have been tough to part with! laugh

Fat Wally15 May 2010 2:26 p.m. PST

Bargain. With luck like that you should do the lottery chum.

Spectacle15 May 2010 5:05 p.m. PST

Lovely desk, would have been a bargain at 10 times what you paid for it! :)

Mulopwepaul15 May 2010 5:13 p.m. PST

Well played, old sock, well played…

Ditto Tango 2 115 May 2010 7:39 p.m. PST

Good stuff and great find!

My wife used to like poking aroubnd the second hand stores and came back once all excited to say she'd found a great desk for me. Not nearly as nice as Olicana's find, but still very nice and solid and fairly old, too.

Did you try to haggle him down from 10? A true Yorkshireman would!

Incidentally my wife said how come I never come home with something nice when I go out for glue – I usually come home with more lead.

Skeptic15 May 2010 8:48 p.m. PST

Nice one! How did you get it home?

bandit8615 May 2010 9:44 p.m. PST

Very nice…but did you get the glue? :)

olicana16 May 2010 2:33 a.m. PST

Hi Skeptic,

I don't drive. So being a true Yorkshireman, I dismantled it in the shop and carried it home! Fortunately the shop is only 500 yards from where I live. It took five trips.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER16 May 2010 2:49 a.m. PST

Cool score. My sister has my uncle's that I painted on for seveal years after he died.

too nice for a paint desk …

The glass top is what makes it so neat. Dried up drips scrapr right off.

That is a SERIOUS score! Well done, man. Well done!

Syrinx016 May 2010 6:01 p.m. PST

Nice find. I think you owe your wife a pint for making you go in.
