Does anyone have any good ideas for King Kong/Giant gorilla for 15mm scale figures? Would this Reaper ape work? link How big is it? Any specific platic toys that look good and would fit? How about 15mm Skull island natives? Thanks Jake |

Check Acheson Creations out of New York. He's got a Kong ape of extraordinary power in two poses. Twenty bucks. |

I was also looking at this fella here (minus the wings): link I wonder how tall he is? Dan |

There's the Monsterpocalypse Kong, though maybe oversized for 15mm. link |

The Reaper fig will work fine – it's not quite 50' tall in 15mm scale, but still big enough to be really impressive. The cheaper one is from their P-65 range, which uses a lead alloy. Detail is about as good as the lead-free DHA version, and it's probably well worth saving the extra money. You might also try the 100 Kingdoms Giant Gor: link About the same size as the Reaper one, and IIRC both are sculpted by Jason Wiebe. I personally prefer the Reaper pose, but they're both pretty good. |

@imnotanaga The lower price ape is in their P65 line that has a higher percentage of lead in them. |

I think the big apes made by Schliechm Papo, and similar (large, sem-flexible plastic) are the ideal size. I've got this one, and it works for me: link IIRC, a 15mm figure will reach about 2/3rds up his forearm. And it's pretty cheap. |

Watch eBay for resin Kongs in the toys-models section . I picked one up (that I have yet to assemble
doh!) that stands about 20" tall. I plan to use mine with 28mm figures, but you could easily get one of the 10" Kongs that pop up from time to time for 15mm. |

Folks, thanks for all the suggestions. Now how about 15mm merchant ship crewmen with weapons? |

CPT Jake: What size Kong do you want? The original 1933 King Kong was proportioned by special effects genius Willis O'Brien to be 18 feet tall on Skull island, although for the New York scenes he was upscaled to 24 feet tall. (Some of the promotional art for the movie made him 50 feet tall!) I believe the Peter Jackson King Kong was meant to be about 25 feet tall. The Kong figure I've made for a 1933 King Kong game I'll be running in the fall is scaled to be about 24 feet tall re 28-mm Pulp Figures and Brigade Games natives and sailors. Mulligan |

If you don't mind using toys there was a line of mini King Kong figures released when the movie came out. They stand about 2.5-3" tall. You can still find them around online relatively cheap. -Ken Radioactive Press |

Honestly anything between 25 and 50 ft would work. If on the bigger end it couls also be used if I decided to go 28mm later. So, looks like I need an ape that is close to 60mm or so. I am going to us the Eureka 15mm sailors as a ships crew: link and I have the Brigade Games 15mm pulp figures, some Irregular 15mm stuff from the Tusk range and some other odds and ends to add in like a Peter Pig film crew. I still have not fully decided on what to use for Skull Island Natives. Jake |

I would consider the OG15s Berber figure from the Ancient series or Fuzzies from their colonial line. Both are bare chested with loin cloths or wraps and armed with melee weapons. Cheers, Robert |

Thanks to a tip from CC I got my Reaper ape from an Amazon seller for about 20 bucks, and it was the 3052 version which is the more expensive version. As for Fay Wray, one of the Irregular Tusk sets comes with a decent figure, and Rebel has a couple that may work as well. I also got my ship crew from Eureka, these are NICE little figures! Jake |

Cacique Caribe: I know you've probably posted it somewhere, but did you ever actually find a suitable Kong figure for your own 15-mm plans? I was looking at my pack of Pulp Figures killer apes. They might work for 15 and would definitely be in 1933 King Kong proportions for 20-mm. Mulligan |

I have a bin full of gorilla types I bought for 28mm. I am going to go through them tonight and see which one looks best as a King Kong for 15mm. What height range were you thinking of, Mulligan? Dan |

Sculpey Kong is about 5 inches tall, which measured against Pulp Figures and Brigade Games sailors and natives comes out to about 24 feet tall. I haven't measured the Pulp Figures Killer Apes pack, but I suspect vs a 15-mm figure the Pulp Figures apes would look about 24 feet tall and vs a 20-mm figure I suspect they'd look about 18 feet tall. Here's an old photo of Sculpey Kong in progress to whet everybody's Kong appetites. He is, of course, wearing a hefty overcoat of Kneadatite so I could get the level of detail I wanted. The native figures are from Pulp Figures. Mulligan picture |

I pulled out my pack of Pulp Figures Killer Apes last night and checked them out against some 15- and 20-mm figures. The apes are nicely done, but they're a lot smaller than I remembered and really too small to use for Kong with 15- or 20-mm figures. They might work well for Mighty Joe Young with 15-mm figures. The Pulp Figures apes are about 30 mm tall. Mulligan |
