I've caught the bug again for GDW's Triplanetary and have found counters and maps on the web. Two things that I haven't found and was wondering if anyone else remembered:

1. What was the "mass" of torpedoes and mines? Specifically, a frigate had a cargo capacity of 40; how many mines or torpoedoes could it carry?

2. What were the "damage" ratings of mines and torpedoes? A corvette had a combat factor of 2, a frigate of 8, etc. What were the ratings for ordnance?

Thanks for any help.

Torpedoes mass 20 tons, mines mass 10 tons, nukes mass 10 tons (non-warships limited to 1 nuke).

Mines and torps have a column on a separate damage table; roll a die and check the results. Torps: 1= no damge 2 =D5 4-6= Eliminated. Mines 1-3= no damage, 4=D1, 5=D2, 6= D3

Nukes destroy everything in a hex, or one planetary hex side.

if you liked Triplanetary.. also give GDW's "Belter" a whirl.
you can get it at wargames vault.

have a look at SJG's Triplanetary page and chris weuves page as well.

also put up a belter/triplanetary xover on BGG

have fun!

GZGs civilian range and GF3xx have some minis which may suit as well

The rulebook is on BoardGameGeek, iirc.

It would be cool if I you could make a white board with a hex grid so you can draw the vectors.

Laminated maps and washable felt tip markers will work just as well. Wipe off with a paper towel or tissue (a damp paper towel is even better).

there are also a few bits and bobs at webgrognards tripe entry

I love Triplanetary! I'm glad to hear that there's still others interested in it, too.

I use a 4' X 4' hex mat covered with a piece of acrylic, and draw vectors and other relevant information on that with dry erase markers. It works really well.

Belter's a great game, easily up there with Monopoly or Risk as a cutthroat multiplayer day-burner. I can remember playing a Traveller RPG game that used Belter to generate "situations" the PCs had to deal with.

I always wondered about making a big Triplanetary-style map (not the one in the game, it's atrocious), of maybe just the inner system, with 5" hexes so you could fit multiple ship minis in each hex, and play it as a minis game.

Then again, I also think it would make a good tactical system for WarpWar…

I wonder why GDW never put out a version of Triplanetary using the Mayday mechanics. Thanks for the links bobblanchett. I was hoping for a more retro look, in keeping with the counter silhouettes.

I'd use Ad Astra's Attack Vector minis myself. I think they have the right "look" for "near future space combat" myself.

Resurrecting this thread – you guys beat me to some great stuff!

Am very interested in using this system's vector movement with Starfire or similar.

Anybody paired this with Steller Conquest?
