Anyone notice that in recent weeks the hour of TMP downtime is creeping outwards.

Today it was one hour 23 minute. I know, because I had long since finished visiting my other regular sites at 57 minutes, and was sitting pressing 'refesh' every minute or so waiting for the site to go live again (yes, sad, I know!).

Bad enough to have an hour of my favourite fix denied at just the time I sit down to my computer each evening, let alone having it extend into even more of the evening.

It's seemed that way for a while to me – I tend to assume it'll be down 08:00 – 09:30 UK time.

Yep, also noticed that.

I've also noticed that, first thing in the morning here in the UK, which is the best time for me to check the site.

I work in the industry and, technically, I'm sure there is a way around it. What happened to the planned rebuild of the site mentioned some weeks back?

Martin Rapier26 Apr 2010 3:33 a.m. PST

Yes, it is well over an hour these days.

The monster grows, time to weed out some older threads and unused boards.

Grizwald26 Apr 2010 4:59 a.m. PST

Unused boards? Surely you jest? How can there be any unused boards??

Delthos26 Apr 2010 6:14 a.m. PST

In most cases those unused boards don't have many threads in them, so they really don't add much time to the backup, at least I wouldn't think they would. The real problem are those highly used boards. Those are the culprets.

If there was a way for Bill to remove those threads that are nothing but a bunch of silliness, I think he'd be able to reduce the size of the database by at least 25%.

those threads that are nothing but a bunch of silliness

yes, but your idea of silliness might be profound spiritual revelation to others.

This is not a site for obtaining profound spiritual revelation.

Colin Hagreen26 Apr 2010 7:59 a.m. PST

This is not the profound spiritual revelation you are looking for…

WeeSparky26 Apr 2010 8:00 a.m. PST

Eureka! It all makes sense now! Why didn't I see that before?

Delthos26 Apr 2010 9:57 a.m. PST

It wouldn't be what my interpretation of silliness is that matters, only Bill's interpretation.

Maybe it just seems longer.
