EASY SPONK BISQUE This rich and creamy sponk bisque is flavored with a little sherry and fresh chives, and it will warm your soul on a cold winter's night. The addition of fresh herbs or a squeeze of lemon can make the dish. Serve this soup as a main dish, or as a first course for an elegant dinner party. Ingredients 2-3/4 cups milk 1 10.75-ounce can condensed cream of asparagus 1 10.75-ounce can condensed cream of mushroom soup 1 cup half-and-half or light cream 6 to 6.5 ounces of fresh sponk meat, drained, flaked, and cartilage removed 3 tablespoons dry sherry or milk Fresh chives (optional) Preparation In a 3-quart saucepan combine milk, asparagus soup, mushroom soup, and half-and-half. Bring just to boiling over medium heat, stirring frequently. Stir in sponk meat and dry sherry; heat through. To serve, ladle bisque into bowls. If desired, garnish each serving with chives. Makes 6 main-dish servings. |

That pickup crawler is a bargain, and the Resistance will look nice fighting across some scifi shanty towns. Guess I'd better work up another order – and get some more Rebel Scourge while I'm at it for OpFors. I still managed to look at the cat in the hat again, though. Have to read before I click. :) |
cfielitz | 14 Apr 2010 4:32 a.m. PST |
Whoa, paint it red and the Rockjumper pickup crawler looks a heck of a lot like the vehicles we used in Antarctica back in the 80s. |
nvdoyle | 14 Apr 2010 4:33 a.m. PST |
Packaging thought: if I'm getting two gunners and two truck guns, I'll probably want two riders and two ammo boxes as well, so I can make two trucks. Or, I could just buy two packs and have extra guns and gunners! Nevermind, problem solved! (Also, could we see a comparison shot between one of each of the scifi ranges?) I don't think I have to mention that the new stuff looks awesome. |
morrigan | 14 Apr 2010 4:57 a.m. PST |
Nice stuff! Thanks for making them! |

CC, the first code of Mekanoids, the grenadiers, are coming in a week or so, once they are painted, assuming the painter can slot them in right away. Also the Felid baron, who's a pretty cool figure. The Resistance command are being cast and I don't know when I'll get them exactly. Mid-May? The heroes are being sculpted but the sculptor is working on lots of other stuff too so can't put my finger on when they will be ready. All he's done so far is make the 15mm version of my Genocidal Overlord, Jellina Joel I. It's totally spectacular! He's also going to make a female assassin from an assassin's cult hired by the genocidal overlord to kill the heroic scientist who is rallying the resistance. The heroes themselves will be that male scientist in environment suit with BFG, and a very agile young female platoon leader. As I had Jellina made in 15mm, she's going to be getting her full repertoire of baddies. The Lhurrgs are being cast, as she sent tribes of them to Sepulveda to terrorize the resistance (didn't work). She then tried Kark mercenaries (already available) and finally bred transhumans, the Control Battalions, who are very tough opponents (being made). And of course she has her Garn bodyguard but she uses them sparingly as she needs Sepulveda more or less intact and functioning. The Control Battalions will have infantry and their heavy weapons will be centered around drones. They are going to wear fully enclosing helmets and faintly Gestapo-esque uniforms. They will have fairly low tech vehicles too, including a fully tracked APC that is very reminiscent of a certain historical bad-guy half track with welded steel plate armour! Also they will get an AFV that will probably look a bit like the E25. nvdoyle, a technical truck crew is a guy and a machine gun. I actually had the female fighter riding shotgun and the crate made to offer some variation to the crew depiction. As it is now, you can have a female gunner with cannon, female gunner with missile launcher, male gunner with cannon, and male gunner with missile launcher. With the shotgun rider and the crate, you have more pieces to add to the vehicle to give more variation to their appearance. The crew was not meant to be one gunner, one shotgun rider and one crate. |

Mongo, I think I'll just assign your wallet over to my sculptors and casters. Your wallet should be in good company, sitting there next to mine! |

How big is the Sponk? At $2.99 USD each, I'd imagine he is the size of a 28mm figure. I'd think he'd be cooler at 18-20mm but that's just me. |
khurasanminiatures | 14 Apr 2010 8:32 a.m. PST |
The Sponk is exactly 25mm tall, so he's good as a large 15mm creature or a smallish 28mm one. Also sized pretty well for 20mm sci fi. |
Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut | 14 Apr 2010 9:33 a.m. PST |
I want some Sponk (Sponks? Sponka?) Do they move in herds (flocks? schools?) I also want some Vespulids. And some Lizardmen. But I still haven't finished the stuff from my last order (oddly enough, because I have stopped painting and am instead obsessed with building a cardstock shantytown
I have I think like 15 shanties now.) So, when I am done with the last stuff I ordered (as well as the stuff from 15mm.co.uk) I will be picking those up. |
Rothgar | 14 Apr 2010 10:14 a.m. PST |
How about a swarm army instead of the trooper/command/support weapon formula. I like the different races, but they are all just different looking humans with the same unit composition. |
Gathrawn50 | 14 Apr 2010 10:27 a.m. PST |
I don't really care for the Vespulid Swarm, I really would like to see something more swarmy than that particular swarm. Something fortified with a greater level of swarmiosity than the Vespulid Swarm, if you understand my meaning. |
Rothgar | 14 Apr 2010 11:13 a.m. PST |
A cromulent swarm, as it were. |
Gathrawn50 | 14 Apr 2010 11:27 a.m. PST |
Well played sir, perfectly cromulant. |
Rothgar | 14 Apr 2010 11:30 a.m. PST |
I like the vespulids, but my preference would be to have an army of them with no guns/rocket launchers and no jetpacks/backpacks. |
khurasanminiatures | 14 Apr 2010 11:31 a.m. PST |

Don't the Parasachnids count? They are a swarm and certainly aren't humans with the same weapons load. There's also the more humanoid spearbearers and mantis men. If those aren't swarmy enough, I'm having some 15mm locust sculpted. I'm not kidding. You don't get much swarmier than locusts. |
Gathrawn50 | 14 Apr 2010 11:36 a.m. PST |
I'm sorry but I don't see how locusts count as a swarm here. I need some clarification on this. ;O) Space demons and the Mantis stalkers are great swarm options too. Plus you have zombies
and Critters furball monsters
and Horror of Party Beach monsters
and Bugmen. Good Lord man, it's like Khurasan is Latin for "Swarm". Mongo |
Rothgar | 14 Apr 2010 11:58 a.m. PST |
Felix fights bipedal ants.. Contemplate that on the Tree of WoaH! The parasacnids remind me too much of the horrible, horrible SST movie. Verhoeven needs a shot in the , if he's got any . |

If those aren't swarmy enough, I'm having some 15mm locust sculpted. I'm not kidding. You don't get much swarmier than locusts. Well, that's the Beginning of the End now, isn't it? Just think how easy they'll be to use – all the scenery can be made out of postcards! |

Well, here are the economics of that. Let's say three poses, and the sculpting fee would probably be around $225. USD Moldmaking and various shipping fees would bump that up another $100 USD to $325. USD The castings would cost me .25 each so I clear .50 for each model if I charge .75 for each casting. As my costs in having them made were $325, that means I have to sell 650 of them to break even. Only after the 650th model would I actually earn anything for my efforts. Looked at another way, all I am until the 650th model is in debt. And it's not totally uncommon for the sale of that 650th model to never come. As I'm not sure people would be making armies of these, probably buying maybe 3-6 of them, I think it would be pretty hard to earn the money back. There's also the issue that this is a low profit (or no profit!) business, so when I have something made it's usually because it appeals to me, and to be honest these don't do anything for me. And having them made would take up precious sculptor or mouldmaker time which could instead be dedicated to something I do like and/or something that people may buy lots of. All in all, not a very attractive proposition. However as you evidently want these, would you like to commission them? If you meet maybe $250 USD of the production cost, then I only have to sell 150 to break even. Not sure I'd even do that, but I'd be a lot more willing to take the risk. Or if that's not appealing, I can give you references to sculptors and mouldmakers so that you can just have them made up yourself. If you wanted to sell the castings to defray your costs, that's not hard to do, just come here and tell people that you've got them for sale. Or maybe someone else will make them for you -- perhaps the fellow at Pole Bitwy will take them on? |

"As I'm not sure people would be making armies of these, probably buying maybe 3-6 of them, I think it would be pretty hard to earn the money back." Well, I don't know about that. If done right, I think that people would buy them as swarms of small alien fauna, even if done with just the 3 or 4 different poses with separate heads (like you do with your space demons). Again, if done right: picture picture Different opinions, I guess. Dan |
khurasanminiatures | 15 Apr 2010 7:35 p.m. PST |
You could give it a shot and see if it works out that way. Like I said, if you want to fund it yourself (and you may if you think people will buy lots), I can give you reference to reliable sculptors and casters. |
