It always fascinates me why so many gamers see the adoption of their favorite set of rules as a life or death struggle, leaving many to become unhinged, ruin friendships, and make themselves miserable. Our group played Empire(we play Age of Eagles now) for a long time and at a local con Scotty once ran a game for us, which worked out well and it was a rewarding experience. He had a unique approach to his own rules, basically telling us to roll the dice and if the result looks close then we'll check the charts! He had a point in that everyone took too much time going through the formulas to see if a single stand had a 1% chance to hit anything. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and took a lot of time to answer questions. However, if you're going to try to sell Empire or Stars N Bars in today's gaming environment, you need to win friends and influence people, which is exactly the opposite of what's happening here. It's kind of like trying to bring back Tractics when FOW is the popular thing right now and telling everyone that they need to play Tractics or they're not playing a WW2 game! |

I had to go look, kinda like those individuals who want to watch a train wreck, or see a midair collision, or slow down at a accident just to see blood and brains
jeez, I'm making my own skin crawl, but there I was signing up to view the scene of the route, and witness the excuses (where's that excuse machine when you need it). Anyway
I am now very sorry I held the group of individuals responsible for Empire in high esteem at one time. Oh, I was younger and so naive. But in my adulthood I've been exposed to their single mindedness in the past, but never the fanaticism displayed by their crew of Empirestas, though I understand, and have signified, that in order to participate you have to sign in blood you will not besmirch the name or question the words of their "god". I now believe Mr. B. and the Empirestas are no longer worthy of trust, distrust, scorn, praise,
or anything. Do you think they will hunt me down? Should I be worried? Do I need to go armed when I drive through Texas tomorrow
? Thank's be to Utah I have a permit to carry. I'd better get more ammo,
and bigger guns!!! If there is this kind of fanaticism over rules governing the playing of toy soldier games I guess it becomes easier to understand why governments and religions don't get along

Most Dissapointing. I have been looking for a set of rules now for many years (amongst the thousands out there) that I could spend large amounts of money on whilst still having to print it off and get slagged off by the vendor. It's the latest in Marketing techniques. I bet a penny to a pound that his website hits are through the roof, and consequently that he sells more today than he would have in the year! Hmmmm

I don't think you have to worry about people signing up to read the forums driving business their way. The War Event has been up since Feb '09 at least and has less than 800 posts, 300 of them from Mr. Pitts and another 120 of them from Jupiter, which is likely Mr Pitts doing the same thing on his own forum as he did on TMP, you know, since Jupiter is exempt from the rule of having to supply your real name for some reason. It might be Witness Protection, but I think the odds are it's Mr Pitts talking to himself. Anyway, over half the posts come from two folks. That leaves 150 people to divide up the remaining 400 or so, which seems to lead you to believe that this forum just isn't sticking. |
gamer1 | 09 Apr 2010 2:03 p.m. PST |
Guys, I noticed that a few folks commented that they have or still are looking for an easy to play "fast play" Nappy set. If any are interested I have a 22 page set that me and my group put together about 4 years back. At first we used it at the two local conventions we attend Bayou Wars and Hub Con. It was well recieved since it played fast and players could actually finish that I made an "Official, Unofficial" rule set and sell it for $10 USD to cover the printing for those that wanted copies. Last time I ran it we had 1500 figs(15mm) 8 players(3 new to the period) and in 5 hours did 7 turns and agreed who would win if we kept going. It is divison level and gives characteristics for the countries, lots of optional rules and an ACW adaption. Those familiar with the period could probably play after a 30 min rules looking over and just use the one page player aid sheet. I know, sounds like a plug. I just wanted to mention it because it pains me to here of folks that would play the period if only there was a rule set that allowed them to actually move and shot instead of looking up rules or sitting waiting to do something. Damn it!!! :-) I was up 'til 2AM reading this thread and used up most of my lunch hour finishing it today. It's a gamer soap opera! The twists and turns were capivating! What messages did Mr. Pitts really post, what was the secret relationship with Terry1956, was Scott a part of it? Did Sam really discover the awful truth behind the review? Where will the next imbedded link lead? I'd pay good money to get this much entertainment! Next time, could it be serialized to spread out the drama? Thanks for a good read, Curt |
fuzzy bunny | 09 Apr 2010 2:32 p.m. PST |
Jupiter, in a possible reference to ego size, is the master himself, MR. B. When you dig through the threads his name comes up as the person doing the post. There are also several posts that appear to be from the same person, though identified by different names,
syntax is very similar. It appears the group has been trying to make the site appear relevant, which may have been Mr. P's purpose on TMP in the first place
start a fight on one forum trying to attract supporting members to his own forum. I have to admit I joined his forum though I do not intend to stay for long. I'm not going to pay money to join the inner circle of Empirestas however and once they find out who I am I'm sure they will expel me as a non-believer. I am driving through Texas tomorrow on my way to New Mexico. Just got back from getting more guns and ammo
to protect myself from the Empirestas at the border. I do feel a bit sorry for them

lol) link "from the War Event webpage" GRPitts Moderator Legionarii I have long maintained that The Miniatures Page (aka William G. Armintrout) proliferated and condoned libel and misrepresentation. On numerous occasions I and others have advised Mr. Armintrout, post by post, of such activities on his website. On each occasion, Mr. Armintrout has simply ignored these warnings.
Mr. Armintrout has denounced me publically, making and printing false accusations about me posting under an assumed ID on his site. He has done this openly, with malice, and for his own selfish gain. Now I am here to tell you that Mr. Armintrout is guilty of the same libel he so callously ignores on his site; The Miniatures Page. Mr. Armintrout; I made no such post on your site. I am not the Garbage Hunter, and can prove so in court. This is the type of conduct that individuals, members, and advertisers of The Miniatures Page can expect from Mr. Armintrout because anyone on his site can say anything they want about anyone, in any manner that they choose, and unless you are in Mr. Armintrout's inner circle, then it's just too bad. Mr. Armintrout thinks he has no liability when he allows a link on his site to direct people to libelous statements about another member. Mr. Armintrout allows and condones multiple ID's in the FAQ sections of his site and The Miniatures Page does not require its members to put their real name in their profile. Because of Mr. Armintrout's egotistical nature and his desire to injure my reputation and that of The War Event, he has purely and simply committed libel. By the time you see this posting on The War Event, Mr. Armintrout will have already been informed by the "Garbage Hunter" who he is and that I, Greg Pitts, owner of The War Event, had no knowledge or complicity in the post made by the TMP member called "Garbage Hunter". William G. Armintrout, aka The Miniatures Page, has two choices at this point: 1. Print a complete retraction on the same public scale of his libel and provide myself, members of The Miniatures Page, members of The War Event, and the gaming community as a whole, a public and written apology or 2. Face the consequences __________________ Gregory alea iacta est! Cool

What I can do is remind folks that anyone who owns a forum (internet or otherwise) can usually post to it using the accounts of others who are forum members. Even regardless of whom Garbage Hunter is, I think Mr. Pitts forgets he was posting as "The War Event" Mr. Armintrout thinks he has no liability when he allows a link on his site to direct people to libelous statements about another member. FYI, Mr. Pitts demanded the removal of a link posted by Clay the Elitist on page 2 of this topic. By the time you see this posting on The War Event, Mr. Armintrout will have already been informed by the "Garbage Hunter" who he is
I have indeed received an email from a Yahoo! email account, from someone who claims to be Garbage Hunter. The email was quite brief (3 sentences) and provided no evidence to support his claim. I've written back to this person but have not yet received a response. I have also invited Garbage Hunter to present his side of the story on TMP, if he so desires. |

What I don't get is that I thought Mr. Pitts was here to promote and sell a set (or two) of rules. When did getting angry like this (justified or not) ever assist one in promoting a product or service? There are many times when I've had to eat my frustration because I had a higher purpose at stake. It is interesting to watch someone loose sight of their obvious self-interest. |
fuzzy bunny | 09 Apr 2010 7:38 p.m. PST |
They have gone to the trouble of setting up this web entity to sell their rules that so far appears to be populated only with their own people. I clicked on member list and got three names. Amazing. Next this guy Pitts shows up and in an attempt to sell rules belittles the first person who asks him a reasonable question. When someone calls him on his attitude problem Pitts goes off on him too, making Mr. P fair game in my view. Looking at other posts by this guy Pitts leads me to believe he has some very serious issues and like so many other Empire fanatics I've run into in the past three or four decades can't take criticism about his beloved rules or their maker, Mr. B. They've appear to have gone to the trouble of creating a series of sock puppets on TMP to belittle other rules sets and other game designers in an attempt to gain what, prestige, fame, forum members, rules sales, friends, or enemies? I can't fathom the depths of stupidity this group of buffoons displays for all the gaming community to witness,
and roll with laughter at.
and they think this is going to help them sell PDF's? I seriously doubt they will be successful to the extent they thought before this train wreck of a marketing plan hit the fan (pun intended). Needs to be a book. Have to be fiction because no one in their right mind would believe it
