hey everyone,

i recently bought some WF Germans on vacation and i am having a heck of a time getting the right skin colour. I've tried washes and every other freaking thing i can think of. So if anyone can give some tips it would be greatly appreciated. Oh by the way the germans are excellent.

I suppose the skin color would depend on where they went on vacation.

Didn't Mick or someone do a tutorial on these?

I find one of the best skin colours for these guys is Medium Flesh from Delta Ceramcoat. Put that on, then put a mix of GW brown ink, future and water in about a 1:1:2 ratio on them. After that has dried highlight them with the Medium Flesh again. That should give a pretty good effect.

I was gonna say "With paint", but I've been jumped on for being snarky.

I usually paint caucasians using GW's Elf Flesh as a base, then wash with Elf Flesh + a couple drops of flesh wash (may be OOP now, but it's a red-brown ink). I then drybrush with elf flesh, then elf flesh + skull white. Produces a decent, slightly ruddy flesh tone (but not so much as straight flesh wash!)

Damon.

I use decoart dark flesh with a vallejo flesh wash. Highlight with regular flesh (I use the old humbrol acryllics)

If you prefer a lighter flesh tone, just use regular flesh with a flesh wash and highlight with a light flesh colour.

I kind of assume that they'd have the weather-beaten fisherman look and therefore actually be quite tanned all year round so go for quite a dark flesh look.

For painting the skin tones on my ancient German warriors, I use Vallejo Model Colors #815 Flesh Tone, shaded with #845 Sunny Skintone.

And be sure to use caution when you paint ancient German warriors, as they can become quite irritable at times. wink

Cheers,
Scott

Good info here, as I was planning on working on some Germans soon myself.

Not to mention 'where they went on vacation' as well as 'with paint' and 'crayons' was some funny stuff :)

Depends on where the Germans like to summer….if they go to the beaches in southern Spain, their dermis will be of a golden yellow-brown. If they summer on the beaches of the Black Sea, their skin-tone will be a rich dark brown, with a glow possibly from the winds from Chernoble…..
