They were there too and some people decided to play a wargame with them.
So, there is a South American WW2 game…

My father-in -law was in 10th Mountain Division 1945 when they and the BEF attacked the Gothic Line in early 1945. He was a counterbattery FO for 10th Mountain artillery.

Unfortunately very few know of Brazil's involvement in WWII … Glad you mentioned it Armand. And it looks like someone had a good time with the wargame.

Many don't know of what the Brazilians and even the Mexicans along with other South and Central American countries contributed to the war.

I wrote a big article on this that appeared in Miniature Wargames magazine (and the SOTCW Journal too)a few years back.

My article on the Brazilian pilots is still floating around on the internet – Society of Airwargamers site I think.

And very interesting articles they were too Richard. The main proglem wth Brazilians is painting the national markings, all those teeny stars….

Coming from Martin, I take that as a great compliment – cheers :-)

When are you going to write something new for The Journal?

Going back to topic.
I actually had an email from Brazil just before Christmas asking me for info on Brazilian pilots involved in a fatal training accident in the US prior to them shipping overseas to Italy. The writer was a relative and assumed i was a Brazilian historian :-) Sadly I couldn`t help as this hadn`t come up in my research…….

Most older wargamers found out about the Brazilians in Italy in WW2 due to their playing peice in the ANzio game.

\The Military historical artwork series also has a Barzilian unit pictured in one print. Those of us who hung around National Guard armories in the 1960s saw them there first.

Yep. I did.

I first found out about them when i read Douglas Orgill`s "Gothic Line" when at school in the late 1970s.

Then later Greg Novak wrote an orbat for Command Decision in their Command Post magazine (I suppose this was mid-1980s).

The units commander Gen. (later Marshall) J.B.Mascarenhas de Moraes wrote a book about the units experiances which was translated into English by the US Army. My copy has stamps from the Chemical Weapons School at Fort McCellan, Alabama and the Sergeant Majors Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas.

When both the MP school , the WAC school and MP school left Ft MAc, those were some book sales I hated to miss. Each had a library. Some books went to the new location and some went to the consolidated Ft Mac library. However a lot of books were sold to the public. Then when Ft Mac closed the consolidated library gave some to various schools in the area and sold the rest.

There was an article on them in Miniature Wargames magazine a year or two ago I think?
