The article says he killed 500 using a rifle and shot the rest using a sub machine gun. Were SMG's used by snipers? Thanks for posting,

Though I guess he left plenty of dead that turned white in his wake… AFAIK Simo has the more kills than any other sniper.

Ace, Simo did not operate only as a sniper, he also worked as part of an infantry team, as I recall using both SMG and Lahti-Saloranta M/26. This page has a discussion about both Simo and his commanding officer, Juutilainen, also a very fascinating man. It's in Swedish but most links lead to English material.
