Have picked up the Black Powder rules and entertaining the thought of starting up a Marlburian army. Any advice on unit sizes and composition? |

I thought this was about skirmishing with the Black Panthers and the White Supremacists Society. |

I'm using it. I'm going with 28mm figs and doing 16 man infantry and 8 man cavalry units. Things are going to go slowly until the Wargames Factory figs come out, then I'm jumping in whole hog. Well, I did buy a book on Malplaquet at Cold Wars. If I finish the book on the 30YW that I'm reading now, I'm 350 pages into an 850 page book, then I'll probably just go for it then. Hopefully the Wargames Factory figs come out soon though. |

Hilarious! Who would've thought that East Oakland thugs would be into Marlburian wargaming? |

I'm using 15mm with 18 figs to an infantry battalion and 12 figs to a cavalry regiment. Both of these are divided up into 6 bases and then double ranked. I'm halving all the distances and the games I've had so far have been great fun. You can check out what I've done at my blog: link There are 2 battle reports there. |

After play testing BP, I don't feel it is suitable for WSS. "Under the Lilly Banners" is written for the period and uses similar sized units. Highly recommended. |

Black Powder seems to offer remarkable flexibility on unit size so it's a question of what suits you aesthetically. The problem is always the danger of basing yourself into a corner and the not finding the chosen rules satisfactory. ULB and BP are both stand based sets of rules so ULB (6 stand) units should are useable for BP. I suspect with some tweaking they'd fit for Lace Wars or Principles of War. |

I'm using it for 6mm. It works rather well for WSS (for me). I suppose one could easily adapt certain tweaks to contain personal biases/insights of the period. All told it is a fine set of rules for a good evening's gaming among friends. (French army for me- anybody's army whose generals look like Frank Zappa must be invincable!) |

Oh- for basing
..2 stand battalions. Easier to move, set up etc. |

Can they be used for the wars of the Scottish king, Malcolm X too? |

I rebased my Malburian collection for BLB so the infantry units are in 3 stands of 5 to 6 figures each. You could use these directly as small units in BP or combine the units to give standard or large size BP units. Combining 2 BLB cavalry squadrons of 6 figures will give a standard size BP cavalry unit. Also you can easily redefine the BP unit sizes so that a 3 stand infantry unit is a standard sized unit. Note that the 2nd edition of BLB is currently being playtested. |

Hmmmmmm does this mean if I buy BLB now, it is going to be obsolete shortly then? |

It seems that the revised 2nd edition of BLB are a major rewrite. |
