I just painted a bunch of the splintered light ones and they are very nice. I guess it depends on what you like, the essex ones are very good as well.

I would say the thistle and rose were the best. Sadly no longer available.

I'd recommend both the following, which is what I use:

Well, I have some nice looking figures from Two Dragons and would suggest them. Not sure however what their status is – Brookhurst doesn't list them anymore and Caliver says they have been having problems restocking.

I'm going with these Vikings this spring.

If you want Irish and Scots or indeed Welsh QRF are very good. They also do a good deal on large numbers of a single multi pose figure packs.

For Normans Khurasan and Outpost's early Crusader stand out for me. Essex are fine too.

Khurasan Vikings are very good. OG15 also have nice Viking figures. Splintered Light have a very good Irish range. OG15 Irish are also decent and in two ranges: Scots-Irish and dark ages Irish. Both sets are compatible

QRF's Feudal Castings range is also pretty good.

For some reason, Vikings from any range are all going to be of the same height and heft.

I know you are looking for a deal, but consider the fact that you will live with your decision for many years to come.

I would suggest buying from as many different places as possible. Large robust vikings alongside skinny short one's would add a great deal of interest and appeal if you ask me. Romans should be uniform in thier appearance, Vikings should be as different as possible.

What's cool is, you could buy from a couple of companies now, spend some time painting them up, and then make another purchase later on down the road. You are not requierd to buy everything all at once.

I'm with moonhippie3. I like buying from various companies especially for irregular troops.

Two Dragons are very nice but I think the guy who does them has other irons in the fire. The only show I've ever seen him at is Triples and to fill up the order from what he hadn't got in stock took some time. The command figures are full of character and if you can get hold of his Norman/Saxon/Viking command packs I don't think you'd be disappointed

I always go for an eclectic mix of ranges. These are Norman Cavalry I did last year.

I might have had a look at the Khurasan if already hadn't got more than Normans than I needed.

2nd (or is it 3rd?) for Khursan for Vikings and Normans. SLM for Irish.

Warweb have Old Glory 15mm starter armies for a good price now (I believe till the end of March) Both Normans and Vikings. Bob

A word about the Museum Norman "Knights"

The horse's tails are extremely fragile. Otherwise they are beautiful figures.
