In ancient battles, armies fielded hundreds, if not thousands, of chariots in a single battle. In fantasy games, players are lucky if they can afford to field a half-dozen, due to cost! I know that chariots require flat, open battlefields, without many obstacles, but this could be done -- it is, after all, fantasy…

In my games, I field a single chariot for a few races, using them as leader platforms, carrying high-ranking leader figures around the table. I would prefer to field large numbers of chariots, as full combat units, similar to cavalry units. To do this, I need paper flats -- I cannot afford three dozen chariot castings for 3-6 armies… :-( There are a very few available, I think. Anyone know of any? Paper figure makers, are you interested in producing such fodder for us? :-)

Paper flats have graduated to 2.5D, which I really like. Their quality is really nice, and the assembly is not overly difficult, nor terribly time-consuming per figure. With the digital cutters now available, this is much less of a consideration for those able to purchase such a labor-saving device (not me, yet…). Bring on the chariots!… Please? "Bueller?… Bueller?…" Cheers!

Tell me specifically what you are looking for. 28mm High Elf? 15mm Hittite? I will see what I can do!

Sgt Slag19 Mar 2010 9:05 a.m. PST

28mm scale:

-- Orcs
-- Goblins
-- Hobgoblins
-- Gnomes
-- Dwarves
-- Elves (High and Drow would be nice)
-- Humans (Historicals could be used without much cause for alarm, crossover is already a given in filling the ranks for most fantasy miniatures gamers…)
-- Human/Non-Human Skeletons
-- Winter versions would be nice, too (could be used for Narnia games, or just winter battles)
-- Giant versions (Frost and Fire Giants; would be very nice, as it would give some other options, for some very powerful enemies, but these are the lowest on my wish list.

Cheers!

Go to Wargame Vault and type in "chariot" in the advanced search bar. There are some there, including Celtic and Egyptian and I think at least one Elven chariot.

I think I can probably knock out Orcs/Goblins?Hobgoblins over the weekend, but probably still horse-drawn as opposed to fantastic beasties. I have some cardstock terrain textures that would lend themselves well to wodden-plank construction. I will see what I can do. Elvises would look right in an Egyptian-style chariot, and I think I have enough images of those to make it work as well.

My plan is to render some fold-up 3D chariots that you can put your existing 28mm models in. Are you using 25mm or 30mm bases?

Sgt Slag19 Mar 2010 9:16 a.m. PST

For my infantry, I use 25mm for Human-sized figures. It depends on the model, really. I am still gaming with 2nd Ed. BattleSystem rules, by TSR/WotC/Hasbro, from 1989.

Your ideas sound fantastic. Horses for power is fine, as many chariots are drawn by horses when produced as metal figures. Fantastic mounts/pullers, is preferred, of course, but take your time. I suspect they will be highly successful for their producers.

GreatLakesWeasel, the Elven chariot entry that comes back, appears to be a rules supplement only, no card stock figure in the set. Cheers!

Ok, I have an Orc heavy chariot that can hold four guys on 1" bases rendered, I wll try to get it built and post a picture. But it is 2 1/4" wide, so that lets out most standard 2" bases lol!

I have an idea for an elven chariot too. Might take a while longer to build…

I built Dwarf War Sledges from Celtos from those coffee stirrers you get in coffee shops

I imagine for Orcs you could do similar, though you would have to make planked wheels.

I've done things like that out of card in the past, but that is more 3D construction

My first Chariot came out far too big in wheels and walls, so back to the drawing board. I also assembled on of the Arion chariots that I bought from wargames Vault a while back, maybe I can get some pics up soon.
