I was disappointed to learn that my favorite big maker of 28mm historicals does not have a FPW range. SOOOO.

How far off would it be to use early WW1 Germans and ACW Zouaves as substitutes?

In 28mm, sad to say, that would be a fair stretch, at least for the Germans – the WWI Germans would, for example, presumably have a covered Pickelhaube, which would certainly not be the case for FPW

Since there are some really nice ranges for the FPW in that size, why not *shudder* consider using figures from another manufacturer?

Mark Severin

Leather equipment is different too. Uncovered pickelhaubes already mentioned.

The answer to this question is, as always "It depends how fussy you are."

Have a look at the Helion and Co 1866 Range -

I would recommend Helion, I have a large collection of the Foundry stuff, whilst good in it's time, it is now 20 years plus old and the Helion stuff is very nice, only thing though this is for the 1866 period, no French!!
One other comment my mate has both the Prussians and Austrians, you need the patience of a saint to wait for releases or the ability to convert. The range is very slow but I believe it will get finished if you decide on 1866 rather then FPW.

All the best,

Mark.

…with Austrians, French, and Saxons, but no Prussians!

Sounds like a match made in heaven.

I was and am open for suggestions.

I suppose that was your way of saying scale creep carries a FPW range. So, thanks, I'll check it out!

Warmest regards,

Irregular do some very nice 40mm FPW range if you want some really big figures. Stunning display game at Triples a few years back.

My guys are all 6mm so I can't help with 28s I'm afraid.

Oh and I was forgetting try Baker Company, Prussians , the old Helion range, again for 1866, but who is pedantic!

wargamer1972,

We game the Franco-German War of 1870-1871 and use a mix of the following figure lines:

Sources for Franco-Prussian War Figures

Foundry: Prussians, Bavarians, Wurttemburgers command, infantry, cavalry, and artillery and French command, infantry, cavalry, and artillery

Castaway Arts: Prussian command, infantry, cavalry (dragoons & uhlans), and artillery and French command infantry, cavalry (cuirassier & chasseur d'Afrique), and artillery

Old Glory: French marines (actually Boxer Rebellion), Chasseurs d'Afrique

Eureka: Prussian infantry and French infantry

Askari: French command, Tirailleurs Algerien, Zouaves, Chasseurs d'Afrique

You can see some pictures in our battle reports at link . Just click on "Pictures of Games" button and scroll down to the 19th Century battles.
