For those that are interested in a truely Mega Stalingrad Game. I will be hosting one at Little Wars, 22 & 23 April 2010, at the Lincolnshire Marriott Hotel, Lincolnshire Illinois. The HMGS Midwest website has the event list and codes for those that wish to preregister. Now more about the game. I have put together a 18 foot x 6 foot table. All City. Some of the main features include a 4 foot long tractor factory, the administrative building, Department Store, 4 Apartment Block buildings, rail station and Grainery. The rules used will be FOW with over 22,000 points worth of troops involved. This game will be run as a mini-campaign played in three rounds. With 12 objectives on the table, players get two points for taking an objective, 1 point to holding an objective. So each round of play will influence the next round due to shifting point balances. We provide all the troops, all are painted for Stalingrad with all bases flocked for city fighting. Fot those that have always wanted to play in a truely Big Stalingrad game
now is the time to come to Chicago and join in. I recommend pre-registration
which ends on 1 April. For those that do not preregister tickets become available 1 hour before the game begins, and my game tickets always go fast. |

Sounds very cool. Wish I could be there. I've never played FoW, but for that, I'd play any rules! Any teaser pics? Peter |

Does FoW mean it's 15mm? By all means, take lots of pictures! |

You horrible, horrible person – tempting us with this, this, THING. I would LOVE to fly out and participate, however, work, family, and funds preclude that outcome. Perhaps you would venture to the West Coast and present this mega game at Enfilade! 2010 or 2011?? Please do take lots of pictures! |

Sounds excellent. I vote lasalle012 be thrown into the dawghouse for not providing pictures, especially for those of us who would come and pay the game based on his description, but can't travel to chicago!
So there. Let's give him one more chance – if he posts pictures of the game, he'll be forgiven

I will be finishing the boards this weekend. All the troops are painted, so are the buildings. I will be having a professional photographer taking pictures of the game at the convention, so there will be some very nice pictures. That's a very big building. Longer than the maximum range of an 88 (over 2 kilometers) The Germans have no 88's in the game
so not a problem I am already working on next years game

I recognize the train station building (first 8:38 pm post) – it's a generic American Grand Central Station building that I also bought for use, but in my case it's for the Berlin '45 game I'm working on. Seems that Communists and Nazis have at least one thing in common – sterile architecture! 1930s U.S. architecture has that in common with them, both in time and in style. |

That Grand Central Station building is a great kit to work with and easy to modify. That is the building kit that was recommened by battlefront on their website for Stalingrad. For the tractor factory I used some laser cut kits, that I am sorry to say are no longer available. THe other buildings were ones that I put together myself. The Department Store took me a week to build using the picture in the Battlefront Suppliment as a guide. The most difficult for me was cutting out yje letters to go on the admin building. Good Luck with your Berlin Game. Street fighting games can get very intense. Several years ago when I ran the game at a convention there was a very hor fight that centered around two apartment blocks. The Germans had two Infantry platoons and a MG Platoon defending a four story apartment building with about 40 rooms in it. The Russians launched their first attack with a Penal company and Strelkovy company. After three attempts the Russians entered the first floor and cleared it of the first grenadier platoon. They started to work their way up when the germans counter attacked with a grenadier platoon from an adjacent building. They pushed the russians out. But the russians came back with what was left of the two original attacking companies and a fresh SMG Company. They took the first floor back and most of the second floor when the germans threw in a scout platoon and pioneer platoon. The first floor changed hands several times. The Russiand then threw in an assault group and it looked like they would keep the building. The Germans then brought up another grenadier platoon and assault platoon and took the building back. The first floor changed hands a total of 7 times, and over 150 stands were lost in the fighting. There were 5 players involved in a fight that took about 4 hours and was on an area of the board that covered about three feet. The next games should be much more intense |

so not a problem A building twice the length of max HMG range then, about 2Km. Still very big. |

The GUM store is very well modelled but it appears to be longer than HMG range from end to end. At 1Km long that's got to be the world's biggest department store. Do you think that's realistic? |

Jeff, you are officially off the DH list. Great work, a pity I can't come that far. Oh c'mon, Derek, please knock it off. Don't mind him Jeff and don't get caught up in a FOW flame war with him. Derek tends to pop up in any FOW topic to cut things down. He's posted three times here already saying exactly the same thing! The scale/distance thing is an issue in the 1:72 games I've always played, and is probably a factor in the smaller 15mm scale. It's something every rule set and scenario designer must deal with. -- Tim |

Derek's comments do not bother me at all Ditto, so do not worry. If you have noticed, all I have done is agree with him. If realistic is what you are after, then do not play miniature war games, there is nothing about them that is realistic. I do have some building in the game that are very very big
the entire point of the game, the size of some of the buildings, the way the boards have been layed out, the numbers of troops involved in the game as well as the number of players is to give players a feel of an intense city fight, a massive scale and intensity that one thinks of when you think of Stalingrad. A shame that you cannot be there Ditto. If you like the idea of massive games, and I do. I also run some Normandy Games (5 in total that cover Omaha (12 x 6), Sword (8 x 6), Pointe Du Hoc (4 x 6) St Mere Eglise (12 x 4), Orne River Bridge (12 x 6) I also run a El Alamein game (40,000 points and 40 x 6), Crete (18 x 6) and working on some Market Garden, Pacific and early war convention games. |

Derek, Are 88's range limited to 2 km? link |

In FOW 88s have a range of 40" There is no ground scale in the rules system. |
