I am running a game in a couple months which involves a ship by the name of USS Southfield, the only picture I can find of it is the one on the Wikipedia page listed below, if someone could please send me a picture of it not half submerged that would be great. Thanks Wikipedia page of USS Southfield link |

You will have trouble getting another picture of the USS Southfield as the US Navy's historical section indicates that the Wikipedia image is the only one they know about. link From the book US Civil War Navies by Paul H Silvers we know that she was 751 Tons, dimensions 200ft x 34 x6.5 with a draft of 11feet 8 inches Armament was 1-100pdr MLR , 3-9"SB with an additional 2 9"SB added in April 1863 Using this information I have found several ships that while they may not be exact pictures should give you an idea of how to reconstruct a similar ship for your game USS Westfield link USS John P Jackson link USS Clifton link IMO The book I mentioned is an invaluable reference for anyone interested in ACW navies |

W.R. McGrath is an artist who has painted some ACW naval actions including the Albemarle ramming the Southfield. a reproduction of this image is at wrmgraphics.com/page25.html . It's a night action so a bit hard to see, but the illustration depicts the Albemarle stuck in the side of the ferry with its stern slightly raised out of the water as the Southfield is sinking and slowly pulling the ironclad down. Worth a look. |

I concur with Mapleleaf, KSmyth, and EJNashIII. The USS Southfield would've been a New York ferryboat similar in appearance to the Commodore Perry, Westfield, etc. Good luck with your project, PrinceMcGiggle! |
