Hi, I'm a 15mm gamer, but I have always wanted to do some ahistorical armies from the WSS period in 28mm. Love the idea of having your own nation, unit names, flags, etc. Does anybody know if any the 28mm Plastic figure companies are going to release figures for this period? I see this as the ONLY way I will do 28mm for such a project. Thanks Eric Burgess |

Eric, I know that it is on the lengthy "to do" list of Wargames Factory. I don't believe they are even close to having a release date. |
Porthos | 11 Mar 2010 9:01 a.m. PST |
See here: link There is 81% pre-ordered and 376 sprues (of four soldiers each) to go. Surely that should not be a problem ? (;-)) |
Lee Brilleaux | 11 Mar 2010 9:31 a.m. PST |
Nick is correct. It's on our 'to do' list at Wargames Factory, along with samurai, WWII Germans and various Sci Fi subjects. We're a small company without a kindly billionaire to fund us, and a plastic set involves a five-figure investment to fund it. So we have to put out one set and have it sell a good number to pay for the next set. It all takes time. But it IS on the list :) |

Thanks folks, but I don't like the pose in the link you provided. I hope the future will have more interesting poses. March attack, firing, charging, etc. The head variety should be great for what I want to do. Eric |

Iep!
All this makes me recall about a submission I made, some time ago (case no. 873365). It was then apparently accepted, but have had no further news on it so far. Maybe it was regarded as a minoritary product, so I guess you were planning to include these minis proposal into another WSS set. Is it so? Thanks! :) |

If you are decided on plastics, what about 25mm ones? They are used, quite successfully imho, by several WAS / SYW Imagi-Nation builders: lagerburgduchy.blogspot.com link link link And, since you are to create a 'not historical' army, GNW minis link are certainly satisfactory proxies for WSS ones? Looking forward to follow the development of your project, cheers, Louys de Monte-Cristo link |

Hi Eric Are you going for a bit of old school gaming or are you doing ahistorical piquet? Mark |

Hi Mark, definitely Piquet. Just want to have large units of around 24 figures. Looking to make small ahistorical armies. 12 Line Infantry 2-3 Grenadier 1-2 Jager(Lights) 1 12# gun battery 2 6# guns batteries 2 Cuirassier 2 Dragoons 2 Hussars At least that is what I'm thinking of doing. This project is so far off I don't mind waiting years to have the great new plastic companies make the ranges. I look forward to seeing them. Another option would be to go 10mm with large battalions, but right now I'm waiting for 28mm. Now, back to my current Russo-Polish War 1792-1794 in 15mm! Eric |

Re. using 1/72 or 25mm soft plastic suitable for WSS, the infantry here are Zvezda GNW ones. The cavalry and artillery are the (IMHO poorer-quality) Strelets ones. Zvezda now has Swedish dragoons with turnbacks and Russian artillery with loose-worn skirts. Swedish artillery are coming soon. (And I assume Russian cavalry in loose-worn skirts would be next.) link Check out the Plastic Soldier Review for photos of all of them. (And there may be some suitable early hussar style troops in Cossack packs.) link |

Those Zvezda are great! I'm not a fan of soft plastic though. I haven't painted soft plastic since I was 10 years old. Still have several hundred Airfix, Atlantic, and Hatt figures. Back in the day, I would paint the figures and then the paint would chip off. Not srue if that is the case for soft plastic any more. |

If you look through the Plastics message board and probably the Painting board, DinOfBattle2, there will be threads about prepping soft plastics for non-chip painting techniques such as first priming with gesso, or newish plastic primers etc. that weren't around 30 years ago when we were (or just I was) young. |

Eric, you can start to devise your imaginary army and country while the sculptors are at work! Toy with ideas for: - your country: - its name, general location, rough geography link , then the distinctive features of its various provinces / counties link link - the political situation: political system, ruling line, ongoing plots link link link link link - the cast of characters schloss-neuhaus.blogspot.com - its history, possibly since the Dark Ages link - and of course its national flag link Some players enjoy to 'novelize' the picaresque / swashbuckling adventures of outsatnding characters herzogofharzburg.blogspot.com raubenstadt.blogspot.com link link kemptenrpg.blogspot.com and of course as soon as you have a few minis you can role-play them link - Your army: you already have the OOB, then you can start your career of military fashion designer theduchyofmuedail.blogspot.com While intended for the SYW, NAB uniforms templates are so convenient to help visualize and test your colors combinations nba-sywtemplates.blogspot.com Then you can write down the individual 'profile' of each regiment link its colours, regimental anecdotes and traditions link
Thus you will be constantly cheered up by the developments of your project. Once you gave it the initial impetus, this enthrallling process is self-maintained, your project will develop on its own: like Dr. Frankeinstein you'll feel your brainchild got its own life and will! Take the plunge to BLOGGING At first it's a convenient way to save your notes on an external HD -and, since they are 'public', you'll be encouraged to get your ideas straight and write them done clearly (no longer will you wonder what you were meaning when you hastly wrote down that unreadable draft a few months ago). But chiefly the comments you receive are so inspirational and stimulating, The collective blog 'Emperor vs Elector' emperor-elector.blogspot.com is a kind of 'League of Lace Wars Imagi-Nations': you don't have to own a fully-grown imaginary country and army to join the merry bunch. Cheers, Jean-Louis |

I use the Zvezda – new plastics, paints, techniques = 100% enjoyment. Go for it. For the price of two units in metal I have over 600 infantry and 120 cavalry, with artillery. Great fun – and plastic is soooo in the spirit of Grant and Young |

If you are happy to use SYW figures Zvesda has prussian grenadiers and they have a future release of Black Hussars which I presume are SYW. Also Hat are potentially releasing SYW figures and may release artillery, cavalry etc. I have used numerous Revell SYW boxes but these can be hard to find although they have just re-released their Prussian hussars. The links page on the PsR site is v helpful especially some of the German comapnies. Also the German firm Art Minuaturen has some compatable metals including a nice model of Frederick and a mounted general. The Revell ones are not 25mm but 23mm approx but the Zvesda ones are. Finally they are pretty easy to convert – I'm really in need of about 12 SYW Austrian grenadier figures for their heads! These will become mounted horse grenadiers if I can find some. |

The Zvezda Swedish artillery is ready: link All in loose skirts, so they'll fit almost all of the period's artillerists. |
