I'm painting some AB early Russian Jagers for the 1805-07 period and have a question about turnbacks. The Osprey book on the Russian army I have indicates that there is (or was at the time of writing) some disagreement about whether the turnbacks on the Jager coats were read or light green. Can anyone provide some clarity on this? For now I'm leaning towards red turnbacks just to break up the monotony of the all-green uniform but would be happy to know a more conclusive answer. Thanks in advance, Bart |

Looks like it's light green, with different piping colours by Regiment, according to Mark Conrad's translation of A.V. Viskovatov's seminal work: The coat was prescribed to be of the same pattern as was authorized at this time for Grenadier and Musketeer regiments except it was light green with similar lining and turnbacks on the tails, without shoulder straps; with a collar and cuffs in a special color for each regiment and with piping along the cuff flaps and tail turnbacks of the same color as the collar (Illus. 1367). You can read more about the specifics of the Jäger uniform evolution here: link |

Cripes! That's what I get for not asking first and painting second. Worst part is I mixed the coat color since I didn't find one I liked very well. Now I get to try and match it! Thank you for that link. Bart |
