I'm looking to do some encampments, and I need a few civil war era tents. Has anyone seen a pattern on line that I can print out and cut up.

I could make my own, but that would be work…

Considering the simplicity of tent design at the time of the civil war, you'd be best served to get one of these:

And a pair of these:

Oh, and here is a detailed plan that you can go by:

I suppose if you get "fancy" you can add tiny little sticks to them made of brown/gray painted floral wire.

Thank your for your support…

Yeah, of course option "A" is just to make folded bits of paper :P

I was wondering if there was a slightly nicer thing out there with panels and flaps more along this line:

That's a command, hospital, or in this case, Sutler's tent. Or they might be used for more permentant camps, which is why we can find lots of pictures of them! The regular Joe Snuffy's lived in "Dog Tents" or "Wedge" or "A" tents (if they were lucky) while on the march.

I never thought about it, but period photos of those two types are darned hard to find!

Here's a long distance shot of a camp of A tents:

Another long-distance picture (famous one at that), Cumberland Landing, 1862:

This is yet another long-distance shot of a camp at Gettysburg:

Found another one:

Hilarious firstvarty1979.

Windward- if you are interested in doing early war tents, you could cut up some cone cups (like they have at water coolers), and you've got yourself some Sibley tents

Hello Tom,

Many years back I made up a pattern for 15mm paper tents which was published in The Zouave. If you send me your e-mail address and I'll send you a scan of the pattern.

My address is ritoews@mts.net

Thanks for the input, and the details firstvarty1979. Cool enough, A tents for me then.
