Does anyone have recommendations for "Grand Tactical" style rules syitable for later Samurai Warfare. Battles of the size of Nagashino and Sekigahara rather than big skirmishes. 1 base = 1 unit, no figure count or casualty removal.

I am considering using Impetus or a variant of Volley & Bayonet (courtesy of Samurai Elb)but am wondering if there are any other alternatives before I start re-organising and basing my 2Dragon 15mms?

Otherwise, does anyone have experience of using either of these options for Samurai games, how do they work and feel?

Chipco's Chrysanthemum throne is a large scale set. I wrote a scenario for 4th Kwanakajima. I like the rules. They have some added chrome which gives good period feel.

They are available from Saber's Edge.

DBR covers this period in Samurai warfare reasonably well. It matches your criteria of no casualty count/figure removal, and each base is a single unit.

I also think Big Battle DBA would be a good way to handle this, possibly using the variant rules for Light Spear to better cover the spear-armed ashigaru units. link

John can you elaborate? Figure numbers? base sizes? play style? I have not seen anything about it and even Google seems to be stuck on finding a review.

Taiko is the right scale but uses individually mounted figures:

I played the rules several years ago. I have the rules around somewhere. I did enjoy them. I will try to post more about them later.

Thanks for taking notice in my Volley&Bayonet variant for Samurai Armies I wrote more then 10 years earlier.

As I heard there is a new version of Volley&Bayonet I want to add that this variant is for the first Volley&Bayonet Rules.

Werner, I know, that makes it perfect for me, I am one of the V&B 1st ed die hards.
Did you ever take it any further or use it after Nagashino?
I would be interested in discussing it with you if you could drop me an email rbrthpr AT hotmail DOTcom

Mike Hillsgrove did a version for Might of Arms which is pretty much grand tactics. Check out his files on the Might of Arms yahoo group.
