That out of the way, Ackbar is a rebel military officer. |

Our defensive line can't repel playing of that magnitude! Concentrate all defense on their center

Picking Ackbar would be hilarious. The action figure of Ackbar was always the last on the shelves
I suspect the school will do the same thing NASA did to Stephen Colbert. His fans won the naming rights to a NASA module and they shafted him.

Stranger things have happened, but I believe George will have some say-so on this one. That being said, this just illustrates the way this present generation doesn't take things seriously. |

School mascot costumes and the word "seriously" do not belong in the same paragraph. Check Stanfords mascot for serious!! |

Yeah, what could be more serious than picking a school mascot? |

It'll be the most expensive mascot in the world (unless they had picked Darth Vader) given Lucas' deathgrip on his copywrights

Any college that lets its students pick their mascot deserves what it gets. And hey they are going from a Col. to an Admiral! |

Did somebody say that picking school mascots should be taken seriously? Wow, that's missing the point. A mascot is there for one thing – inspiring school spirit. Also, you know what happens when people take mascots too seriously, they force you to change from a time honored icon to a pop culture character as a way to spite those who forced the change in the first place. Something similar happened at my high school back in the 80s. We had an old, decommisioned WW2 era bomb as a school spirit icon. Not a mascot persay but the sort of thing that got passed around at pep rallies and touched and inspired the crowd to get up and stomp. Anyhow, it was decided by who knows who that the "Spirit Bomb" was too violent and promoted weapons and warand that we needed something less war-like. It was replaced by a garbage can painted red. OOOOo..yay! We now had the Spirit Garbage Can. Raise the lid and scream. Yippy! Why? Because, somebody took our "mascot" too seriously. So, let's throw seriousness and mascots out the door, okay? -Eli |

Hear, hear, Eli! My high school's mascot for decades (almost 100 years) was Satan. It was Devils Lake, ND after all. Luckily, the attempts to change it were defeated while I was still in school. But it finally got changed by some moralizing busy bodies with too much time and self-righteousness on their hands. Now they're the Firebirds, which is okay, but still not as badass as the Devils Lake Satans. Then I went to the University of North Dakota, home of the Sioux, and that's STILL controversial. Most american indians don't care, but some do, and the NCAA sure as hell does, which wouldn't have been a problem if the stadium hadn't been built with money from a Hitler-loving millionaire who said he'd let the stadium rot if they ever changed the name. The stadium got built, but now if they ever change the name, it will be costly as heck to refurbish it as there are hundreds of Sioux logos all over the place inside it. |
