Hi all
I am new to ECW gaming and I'm starting with some Warlord miniatures and the "Victory without Quarter" rules.
I am planning to use the suggested 60mm squares for infantry , 3 stands to a unit.
How about Cavalry ? How do you guys base your cav ?
2 Cavalry on a 60mm sqaure base ?
What other options are there for basing an ECW army ?

thanks

40 x 40mm is common for 4 foot. 4 to 10 bases a unit with 6 being typical.
Cav 25mm frontage per figure also common is pairs or singles.

The new FoGR rules seem likely to have a 60 mm frontage for foot and cav bases.

Ok thanks
I am painting both sides so I guess I can please myself.
I think 60mm square bases will look nice , a bit spaced out so I can animate the poses using the Warlord figures etc.

I guess it depends om whether you are solo – in which case you can do as you please – or if you need to find opponents. In the latter case I would stick with the more common size bases. 40 x 40, or 60 x 60. Cavalry often 50 x 50 (i.e. 25 x 50 per horse).

I am a solo player, and have based my 28mm ECW on large vignette bases of 180 x 60. NO figure removal. Loosly based along PoW basis, but using different mechanisms from other rule sets, including VwQ, andd Forlorne Hope.

You can take a look at how the VWQ basing looks by clicking into the archives of my blog below. I decided to build my current ECW collection (iteration #3) around the VWoQ basing conventions. The basing size looks good and doesn't give you hemorrhoids trying to jam all the larger 21st century figures on a base. I like the more dispersed look of the cavalry. I can now appreciate the figures rather than having deal with bases. It does take a larger table with the basing convention. That's not a problem for me although it may be for folks with smaller venues. Anyway, here's the link.

I would agree with steve and go for the vwq recomended base size .victory without quarter is an excellent set of rules its just a pity that clarence has'nt developed them further yet .
