Hi, I'm thinking about buying the Old Glory Army membership and purchasing figures from their ECW range to play Warhammer ECW. The figures looked alright online. I'm just wondering how much of a problem is it to drill out the hands to hold pikes and spears? That would be my one main concern with Old Glory Miniatures. Otherwise, it makes sense cost-wise (though you do get what you pay for)…

Though I'd buy my general figures from Foundry and a cuirassier unit from Perry Miniatures, too.

Thanks,
Blake

The ECW figures are very good figures, and drilling the hands is not a problem. they even drill out faster if you are using a dremil.

The majority of the gamers in the Centurions game group in Mpls use the Old Glory ECW figures, and have never complaimed about drilling out the hands. And, they do what you are planning, add Foundry and Perry Figures to the mix.

Yes, Dremel'ing is always a good idea.
Just keep the bit set to VERY slow, and invest in one of those flexible extension wand thingies and something to clamp the minis as you drill.

Cost-wise the OG minis are good. Quality is decent too.
They paint well if you know what I mean…

I have the Old Glory ECW figuers and they are good. I use a pin vise and have no problem drilling out the hands.

I'm a pin vise user, too, and have no trouble drilling out hands.

Do yourself a favor – don't use the leveled pike pose – go for the advancing poses. The leveled pikes look cool, and can be made to work, but it's a lot easier if you just get the advancing pose.

I didn't have any problems drilling ECW OG hands. Electric drill is a must though if drilling many hands at once. They look very well when painted, infantry and cavalry. I don't even see any need to mix figures from other ranges. Here are some painted examples of their pikemen: igwargminis.com/photo2.html

So a dremell tool, pin vise, and some drill bits? I'll keep those things in mind. And I'll go for the advancing pikemen, too.

Thanks,
Blake

Yes, they are great figures. I don't mind spending money on figures so I'm not endorsing them just because they are inexpensive – they are fine figures in their own right.

I think it's one of their best ranges. They have everything a WHECW player could want.

If you buy a dremell tool, pin vise and some drill bits, I kind of adds to the total cost of the miniatures. Not to mention the additional time.

I agree the OG ECW figures are excellent and the hands drill out nicely with a dremel tool (or a pin vise).

If you don't own a dremel and don't want to buy one, a small hand drill and a sharp bit works just fine.

I personally don't care for the cavalry. The horses tend to have saddles that come to a point making the cavalryman figure not to seat well. Also, they are closer to 25mm while the infantry is 28mm. I prefer the Redoubt cavalry which has penty of "life."

I love OG figures because they need to have their hands drilled to hold spears and pikes. This is by far the best design to keep pikes and spears from falling off. I don't see this as a detriment to the figures but quite the opposite!

Don't fret. The cavalry is just fine. I've painted over 120 of them for my collection. Go ahead and take the plunge, the water's just fine!

Check out my ECW projects if you want to see how they look completed.

Wow, thirteen posts and I agree with everyone here. I think the line is very good, in fact one of OG's best. I even agree with Rich's comments.

When you get your army together, grab Merle and come to play at the WECW tournament at Historicon. I know it's a long haul for you guys, but you'll find a good bunch of friendly tournament players. (I know, that does sound like an oxymoron).
