I received my first order of these yesterday and very nice they are too. They are very well proportioned and detailed and will look fine alongside GHQ (you could mix them in units with no problem at all).

The figures are virtually flash free – there was the odd wisp on a bayonet but it was the type that can be scraped off with your thumbnail. The bayonets are particularly nicely done, since they are in proportion (which is rare on figures of any scale) and yet are not fragile – they should be able to stand up to pretty robust handling. In this I think they are better than GHQ who seem to use a softer alloy for their castings which can mean that bayonets and even muskets bend every time you touch them.

Finally, Simon at Bend Sinister was kind enough to include a few samples of the forthcoming Austrians in helmets and grenadiers in fur caps and they are all just as good. So it's time to get the white paint out and pretty soon you could be ready to march off to Ulm …

Fantastic news about the quality "in the flesh" and the compatibility with GHQ – thanks for the review.

Fantastic looking figures well worth the money.

Quick question, are these figures similar in size to QHQ or are they closer to OG/AIM/PEndraken?

They look good and small veriations in scale are less noticible in 10mm than say 28mm.

Hello 138SquadronRAF,

As CATenWolde indicated, they are compatible with GHQ (and in my opinion are not compatible with OG/AIM/Pendraken). If anything they are slightly more slender than GHQ and the bases are about half the thickness. However, they look the same height when placed side-by-side and the sculpting-style is very similar. Despite being delicate-looking figures they are surprisingly robust and will stand up to the handling (and mis-handling) that comes with wargaming much better than GHQ in my opinion.

I've now bought some of Redline's new Russians as well: link

Like the Austrians they are very well posed and detailed figures. It's nice to note that even though both sets of figures are in marching poses they are totally different sculpts. Here again I think they win over GHQ who use the same armatures for all their Napoleonic ranges and just change the details – so their Russians, Austrians, British etc are all in the same basic poses.

My only criticism of the range is that when I came to paint the Austrians last week I found that the drummer is in a rather peculiar pose – he's bent over and looks like he must playing something jazzy rather than marching into battle. Still, this is a minor complaint. The rest of the figures look superb and I found them very easy to paint. And when they are done and you mass them on a base they really look the part.

Finally, Simon at Redline also included a couple of samples of forthcoming figures including Russians in greatcoats – which are very nice (but which I personally won't be buying because I like my troops to be in full dress) and a beautifully detailed kneeling British infantryman, which is such a nice figure that I could be tempted to buy some and paint them up specially to put on the table when my British form squares. (You can see a picture of this chap is you scroll down on this page: link

Have to say they look very nice but why, oh why, do so many figure manufacturers start out with British togged out for the last three months of the Napoleonic Wars, rather than the previous six years!

Trajanus
I have plenty of stovepipe Brits available, the rifleman referred to above is in stovepipe.
