Not sure about these, particularly the size of the mines and the shape of the oil spills, so any suggestions or criticism would be very welcome.

Very nice – though I think your own critique of the oil spills is too harsh. I'd be happy to game with them…

I think the oil slicks look great!

My only critism would be that oil slicks are only effective on a hard semi-smooth surface.

I may be wrong but I don't think an oil slick on the ground would work well.

Look good to me!

One thought I had ages ago about oil slicks and blood pools would be to take thick gloss acrylic paint and pour out small dollops onto wax paper. Once they dried, you could peel them off (maybe!) and put them where needed to signify oil slicks or casualties.
