I have just doeloaded Colonie's memoirs and would like to have some answers on the following matters. 1. The French regiment in Bavarian service was made up of 3 battalions, the first being entirely grenadiers. 2. What were the colours of their uniforms? I only need basic information for the grenadiers and line infantry, as I paint a 6mm army for a friend. 3. The regiment was built according to the lines of a similar force such as Swiss in foreign service and also attached to the household troops of the Elector of Bavaria. Could one thius say they were elite? (As within the BLB rules) 4. What was the actual name of the regiment? 5. What regimental and colonels colours did it carry? |

Did you happen to see my posts in the other thread? I ask because I posted after your last one. TMP link 1. I don't think they grew beyond the original grenadier battalion. 2. Red. "my grenadiers in their red uniform" on page 163. I don't know of further details though. 3. I'd rate then as elite judging by their performance at Schellenberg and later. 4. see page 152. They were given to Boismorel and would take his name. He seems to have been a bit of a knave and de la Colonie eventually fights a duel with him. 5. from page 199 By this time I had about four hundred grenadiers, who had managed to save themselves and the colours, by way of Ingolstadt. These latter, although quite new at the opening of the campaign, were now torn to rags by the enemy's balls ; they had not even respected the motto embroidered upon the white standard. This motto was in two words, " Vae Spectanti" (" Woe to him who looks upon me "). Enjoy the memoirs. Battles, duels, disguises, escapes, mysterious beautiful countesses and even a couple of Miracles make this the "Princess Bride" of the WSS! |
