I'm serious. Lord knows that many of us (myself included) have alot of issues with GW, but let's try something different. Say something nice about GW.

Don't qualify it, don't say what you don't like, or what could be (or was) better. Just good stuff.

Never bought any of their products so it is a bit difficult.

I went into one of their shops once and the assistant was at least polite.

infojunky26 Jan 2010 11:03 a.m. PST

They are publicly traded, so one with enough money can change policy. Oh and their stock is generally down…

aecurtis Fezian26 Jan 2010 11:03 a.m. PST

They stopped publishing "Oi, Dat's my Leg!"

Only Warlock26 Jan 2010 11:04 a.m. PST

They made Space Hulk and Mordheim. That is a surfeit of praise!

Personal logo Murphy Sponsoring Member of TMP26 Jan 2010 11:04 a.m. PST

They did shake up the "lazy old guard" for historical minis by introducing a new way to market a product. BF has taken the idea and has done good, which shows that products don't have to be stuffed into a cheap ziplock bag and then stapled shut….and only id'ed with a code #…

The chicken curry in Bugman's isn't half bad.

They made BF Gothic…before they abandoned it…

Battle Works Studios26 Jan 2010 11:05 a.m. PST

The success of their modular injection-molded plastic has led other manufacturers to take the plunge and do similar work, which is arguably a good thing for the industry as a whole. At the very least it's been darned helpful for my bits box.

They stopped publishing "Oi, Dat's my Leg!"

See, now I would have called that a strike against them. It was no Squelch but still a cute game.

Scutatus26 Jan 2010 11:05 a.m. PST

I love their LOTR range. :)

Blood Bowl is one of the most fun games I've ever played.

Cacique Caribe26 Jan 2010 11:08 a.m. PST

They raised the bar when it comes to making things look aesthetically pleasing in rule books and website.

And before they started merchandising every little piece of gravel, they had more tips on scratch-building terrain than anywhere else at that time (in books and online). They really made you think outside of the box when it came to using unlikely sources of materials.

I really like their LOTR range, and their Mordheim Militia sets were probably my all-time favorite set of plastics. Besides, Even though I am not a 40k player I will always have a soft spot for the Imperial Guard and Space Marines. There's three for the price of one. evil grin

Tsunami26 Jan 2010 11:10 a.m. PST

They have raised the bar when it comes to sculpting quality and the level of detail.

And Epic minis are really cool looking!

ArchiducCharles26 Jan 2010 11:11 a.m. PST

Without them I would not be playing Wargames.

They make great minis.

The two "Realm of Chaos" books.

Oh, wait, that's three nice things I said. Sorry.

Boxed sets are generally good value.

doublesix6626 Jan 2010 11:20 a.m. PST

They did the Warmaster Game but especially love the WM figures which are really nice.

Garand26 Jan 2010 11:21 a.m. PST

IMHO, nice looking minis, an immersive and compelling background, very well supported with both hobby materials as well as non-direct support (novels, etc), plastics an important development in the minis industry, Customer service at least is very good.

I really enjoyed playing their games and buying their products for 15 years, no regrets here :)

"something nice about games workshop"

there, I did it. :->

no seriously space hulk is a cracking game.

Colin Hagreen26 Jan 2010 11:30 a.m. PST

Good things about GW?

They raised the bar for figure quality, which we all benefit from now.

They make good washes, and the foundation paints are pretty good too.

They give away many of their old rules free online, and even have a program of developing those rules further.

They bring youngsters into wargaming, even if most of them drift away before they realise that there is a wider hobby out there.

Through their shops and magazine, they show lots of fantastically painted miniatures that give me a push to paint better.

Cyclops26 Jan 2010 11:33 a.m. PST

Well, I like Space Hulk, BFG, Epic Armageddon, Mordheim, Warmaster, Empire militia plastics, Cadians, beastmen etc, etc.
I said it all in one sentence so I think that counts as one thing.

PygmaelionAgain26 Jan 2010 11:35 a.m. PST

1) Space hulk provides lots of stuff I use for itself, and other games.

2) Around 2000 they cleared out their warehouses via their online store, providing me with loads of reasonably priced figures.

3) LOTR unit packs are nicely detailed and reasonably priced

4) They made orcs big enough to be Super Mutants in a post apoc game.

5) They invented the Chaos Gods fluff, which makes it possible for Corn/Khorne jokes to transcend bathroom humor.

6) They still provide access to Mordheim, Necromunda, Blood Bowl, and other darn fine rulesets.

7) The work of their painting staff inspired me to move beyond painting everything silver, black, red, or brown.

Mlatch22126 Jan 2010 11:36 a.m. PST

Plastic multi-part Cadians, the current Rhino series and the Valkyrie drop ship are all cool models.

richarDISNEY26 Jan 2010 11:36 a.m. PST

Their washes are top notch.

They wrote Rogue Trader. A HUGE step in minis gaming…

Space Hulk and Blood Bowl are immensely fun.

I will never be able to look at orks the same way. Which is a good thing.

Wonderful painters.

Nice minis (even if I dont buy any of their stuff anymore stopped in 1997)

I really like their old rules games and still play with them when I can. (yes the old rules still work even after they changed them into P!.)

mex10mm26 Jan 2010 11:45 a.m. PST

They make games and rules that a lot of people can learn and play.

quidveritas26 Jan 2010 11:48 a.m. PST

I like their bases -- when I can get them.

moonfleetminis26 Jan 2010 11:50 a.m. PST

They make WH 40k, a great game with lovely models. 40K has also drawn my kids into the hobby "cracking stuff".
They have stores in or near me that i can "just go buy stuff" because i prfer to have it now.
Most clubs/places i go to i cna get a game of 40k, without having to rebase my figures for the Ruleset thats poplar in that area.
They constantly revise rules editions/models bringing a different slant to the game so that it doesnt stagnate.
They make great scenery that i can use with any of the 28mm+ scifi game si decide to play.
Their figures are a joy to paint.

Ill stop now, or its gona get toooo long :)

jpattern226 Jan 2010 11:52 a.m. PST

The original Rogue Trader and Realms of Chaos books, Warhammer Fantasy Role Play, Man O' War, the RTB01 plastic Space Marines, Jes's Skaven, Thrud, Gobbledigook, the four old Troll and Goblin games (including the cassette tapes) . . .

Hmmm, I realize that all of those are pretty old "nice" things.

I'll second the kudos for their current line of multi-part plastics. I've used the Skeleton, Zombie, Goblin, Skaven, and Lizardman pieces in many conversions. And if GW hadn't paved the way, we might not be seeing the flood of plastics from other companies that we're seeing today.

Their shops have great customer service.

f u u f n f26 Jan 2010 11:55 a.m. PST

They are probably the only minis game that you can go just about anywhere in the world and find somebody to play against.

And Kroot are the greatest generic xeno enemy models out there. So many uses.

Dr Mathias Fezian26 Jan 2010 12:09 p.m. PST

They have a nice variety of artists and artwork in their publications, most of which is traditionally made- not the horrible Photoshop-painted all-looks-the-same artwork that Wizards of the Coast has fostered.

Some of my fondest memories are playing GW skirmish games (Necromunda, Gorka-Morka, & Mordheim) with my friends.

Great customer service department.

ordinarybass26 Jan 2010 12:09 p.m. PST

Good Stuff! Sorry if I overemphasised the singularity of "something". You're more than welcome to say more than one good thing. My Turn.

1) I love the dark sci-fantasy background of 40k.

2) The miniatures seem to consistently get better and better in scuplting.

3) The incredible depth of range/versions and wide acceptance of their games makes for an amazing 2nd hand market enabling almost anyone to get into a game that's widely played for not too much $. USD

4) Plastic kits. As something of a LEGO addict, I love the customizability of GW's plastic product. Bits yeah!

Goldwyrm26 Jan 2010 12:11 p.m. PST

They made some great products in the late 80's and early 90's.

Since then, I liked the variety of LotR miniatures produced. (Tolkien canon mostly).

flicking wargamer26 Jan 2010 12:12 p.m. PST

They gave me a lot of people to play with when I moved to Atlanta, which got me into 20mm WW2 so when I moved to Virginia I could find a great group of people to play that with.

Gallowglass26 Jan 2010 12:16 p.m. PST

Jess Goodwin wood elves. Perry metal dwarves. Kev Adams orcs and goblins. Old Regiment of Reknown box sets. Rogue Trader. WFB 3rd Edition. Pretty good paints. Beaky Marines. Squats. Metal Space Orks. "The Enemy Within" Campaign for WFRP. Call of Cthulhu and AD&D adventures in White Dwarf.
