I am pondering about my next project period, and from these tree: Spanish civil war,Russian civil war and modern African wars,I think I'll start with SCW.I have not yet make a decision,15 or 20mm.I am inclined to go with 20mm.Can anyone tell me how Irregular,BUM,Warrior,Bandera and Barcino ( if they are not OOP) compare together? Thank you! |

I have all those manufacturers in my Riff War set up, they mix fine (Warrior can be a little hit`n miss on the castings). Avoid most packs of BUM, the figures are poor and the costs high especially for plastics, check Plastic Soldier Review on the net first. Their Spanish Foreign Legion set is the best and those figures mix well with those others mentioned. Bandera are the best, Barcino (from Spain) are quite nice but hard to come by here in the UK. Irregular are a bit rough, but OK and their postal service is just brilliant. Warrior do some great cavalry. I hope this helps. Richard |

I can vouch that Bandera and Irregular go well together. I wanted to try some Barcino, but ran out of money due to minor commitments-marriage, etc. If they are still around I should order some. |

Here you are a few pictures on SCW 20mm miniatures belonging to most of the brands you made allusion to. The only figures I've found no way to combine with the rest are the Warrior ones. Some republicans: link A few Nationalists: link Sorry the weblog is not in English; try the Google Translate insert at the site right bar to get an idea what I am writing about. However, do not expect any great result -you know how do automatic translators perform. |

Bandera has such a huge range and they are great. The original Hotspur figs on which most of this range is based are wargame classics in my book. I love Irregular Miniatures but I don't rate most of their SCW figs -lots of weak ankles and funny helmets(!). However there are some great figs here and there -my fav is the standing militia girl. Oh and the firing Asalto, the pack mules, the cavalry, the gun teams and the very nice 77mm German field gun. The Warrior figs have a certain something but they are much larger than the Bandera or Irregular figs. |

Oh so inspiring, Soldadets! I have some BUM, Bandera and a few Irregular and they seem to work well together as Luis' photos show. BUM are strange – they made a promising start with "La Legion" and then started a slow decline. The "Republican Army" (Popular Army – Ejército Popular) are OK and the Republican Militia are worse. link link link The "Security Forces" set has some great sculpting but only 22 figures for about 14-15 Euros? Strange plastic that falls to pieces? link Some others: link link Then there was the cavalry set that seems to be cobbled together from other manufacturers' ACW figures
link However don't underestimate the conversion potential of some other plastic sets out there: link link link link link link link |
